  4. thanks stragedy for posting that pic. ETHER

  5. Not a bunch to show as most of the stuff im doing is minor final fit items so i can get the main body blasted and in DP-90. I am going to run a sink type fuel tank and doing that im using a Mustang one. Its out of a 65-68.mustang and holds 16 gal. I might be changing to a 69 which holds 20 but that may be later. I cut out the center of the trunk floor and metal worked the edges down to help add in strength. I have a solid peice of trunk if anyone needs it. I will be removing the existing fill tube from the tank and moving it to one of the diverside corners to help ease in connecting it to the filler door tube. As for now Im just trying to concentrate on the firewall and get all that cleaned up. Ill post more pics later. stay tooned ETHER

Comming along real good. Our season has started and all I have time for is finding a part here and there to use later. I need to get back on the 53 chevy as I want to get it farther along and mabe sell it before I really start on the merc. Enjoyed talking to you the other day. You have been very helpful. Thanks, BOBBY FORD

  16. Heres a shot of the 53 Desoto bumper and a pic of the 51 Merc bumper just hangin on the pan.The Desoto one is the bumper with the same face contour as the grill teeth. I really like the merc bumper, but still not sure. One of the few things Im not decided on yet. Anyone??

mmm im diggin the desoto bumper

  18. The Merc bumper flows better, but the DeSoto is more in proportion to the teeth.....
I'd hate to make that decision....but you'll make the right one
I gotta say I'm floored by the work you've done to your car. I'm really impressed and humbled at the same time. Awesome.

Does your pan and teeth need to come up an inch or two, or is it just teh pic?

My vote is Merc bumper with out a doubt.

Also...everytime I see your car, it amazes the hell out of me. I can't even begin to imagine what it took to get it that far.

    Ether,

I wish I could find the time you do. If I could, maybe I could get my 40 Ford Sedan rolling some day. If you want that 8.8 behind my shop it's your's. Could you just set my welder up for me? I've got gas now, no not that kinda gas.

I hate I live a block away and have seen more progress of the merc on here than I have in person.

Any chance you can get your hands on a 49 or 50 Merc bumper? Try that, definately worth a look. You are going to need the brackets too tho, different than 51. That should do it really well with that front end.

  22. Uville, I was thinking of that also. I have a guy coming down from Ohio this weekend to trade some merc stuff for a few pieces off a 64 galaxie I have. I think Ill ask him if he has one. Ill post that pic too if I get one. ETHER

On a friends 51 Convert, they used two 51 bumpers and filled the center flat spot. So the contour was the same all the way across, with a slight "V" in the center. Big $, but damn a good lookin bumper!...............OLDBEET

I agree with OLDBEET the tag recess is the weakest point of the Merc bumper.

I like the agressive look to the Desoto one but it'd need some reshaping to look right at the ends.

Go with a re-worked Merc one and keep it classy. I think.
I may change my mind again.

i love watching this build. keep the pictures coming.

  26. I shaved the deck lid so there was a need for a better latch, one that could be used with a cable. The cable latch mech. had to be on the car end rather the lid. This one is out of a VW. Its a hood latch and works well not to mention it has a safety hook so it doesnt come open while driving down the road and a passanger says "Whats this??". Body mods are about done, then its the doors, and front sheetmetal. Can anyone say PRIMER?? ETHER

Ether its good to see that Ford 302 sitting in there! you keeping it FiI system or you swapping it out?

  28. Im going EFI all the way!! I see you are changing one out from EFI to carb. I have the same set up in my 64 galaxie that im putting in my merc. 22MPG and the ease of hooking up a scanner to tell me if anythings wrong. The motor in there now is for mock up, Im going to use a GT40 5.0L with P heads, E303 cam, and punched .030 over. I was going to use and AOD trans but now Ive decided to go with a 4R70W ( big ol "hell ya" out to STRAGEDY for helpin with that). Its a big brother to the AODE and im going to control it with a Bauman Engineering controller. Out back I had a 9 inch ford but I think Im changing it out, TUDOR40 donated a disc brake 8.8 with a 3:73 trac lock (a BIG thanks goes out to him). Ill keep you all posted on that also. STAY TOONED ETHER
