Yeah buddy! Gonna start a whole new generation of “have you seen that nomad tearing around?” urban legends!

That's funny. I hope so! I'll take that over its previous urban legend story:

"Have you heard about that black Nomad sitting under a lean-to?"

Probably 25 years of that bouncing around up here, this will be its redemption.

Thanks guys. I was able to get the car off the rack today and take it for a spin. It is super fast and everything works perfectly. It just has a temporary wire job just so I can drive it for now to work out any bugs. It will also get further altitude adjustments once everything settles, and I can see where it really sits. For now, I'm super happy. Rolling down the road at 50mph and stomping on it, it just blows the tires off the car :D (well, *tire* for now, 9" posi is on the way)

Anyway, here is a quick little video of it happily idling. More to come.

Project BLOWMAD lives. First drive went perfectly.

    Hello,

Impressed, is all I can think of when i see your Nomad project. It is a great build.
    upload_2025-7-2_3-18-47.png
The set up brings back plenty of memories from our first 671 Isky-Gilmer Belt Drive SBC motor. We took our carbureted 283 SBC motor and rebuilt it to 292 c.i. and had all blower spec parts. It was a huge puzzle that we painstakingly assembled after school almost for 2 months. What a bunch of parts. Plus, my brother had a specific way to set up the parts in his order and install them as he wanted.

So, after those afternoons that led into late 11 pm, fall asleep nights, we finished the motor.
    upload_2025-7-2_3-20-16.png
The installation took place in our normal two car garage with our cross beam supported wooden posts and chain pulley. The Willys rolled into place after we got the motor hanging on the chain pulley overhead. Spending time to bolt everything in place was a definite relief.

Like your photos of rolling it to the next area for more assembly,

We knew it was coming closer to firing it up. The next steps to assemble the front end grille, fenders and radiator were painstakingly finished and now we were ready to fire up.

    Jnaki

I realized my brother played a trick on me to commemorate our finished assembly as he asked me to check all spark plug connections and to make sure the rajah clips were securely in place. But, I did not know that when I got to the driver’s side, he turned on the ignition as I grabbed the wire clips. And instantly, dropped the clip/wire and my arm flew back quickly. It was a shock that surprised me and then watching my brother laughing was the key. He was celebrating our joint effort in assembling the 671 supercharger motor and now, we were ready for the motor to sound.

So, I can relate to hearing the powerful sound of the 671 SBC motor rumbling as we started it and my brother backed out of the narrow driveway to the street. The motor was so loud that our little neighbor toddler came out to see what we were doing and when my brother fired it up, it scared her so much that she ran back to the kitchen, calling out for our mom and then slammed the door shut… yikes

The drive down the street and accelerating was the new sound that lasted to this day. Every time I hear a 671 supercharged motor start up, it gives me instant memory of our 671 SBC motor in our Willys Coupe. A intense build for a couple of teenagers.

Thanks, Bob... until I can find the films I took from the same time period...

Nice job on your 671 Nomad build… @ironandsteele

Thanks, JNAKI and thank you for the cool story. There really is nothing like the sound of a blower, it is addictive.

I have a Willys Pickup gasser that I intend to tow with this car. But the funny thing is, after driving the Nomad, it is definitely faster than the Willys! Is it bad if the tow rig is faster than the track car? I'll have to change that... (more power to the race car, not less from the Nomad :D)

For now, I'm just happy to be driving it.

Put a few real miles on last night. Stopped by my buddy's shop and did a little burnout to let him know I was there.

Stock rear end posi'd so I don't imagine it's going to last too much longer  lol.
