As some know I am beginning the long road to what I hope to be a finished 41 Ford COE. I've been wondering about the general sequence of things and what suggestions the experts here might have. I'm thinking... figure out rough relationship of body and frame to drivetrain. figure out relationship of body to frame and tilt frame. Install engine, trans, tcase into bare frame Build front and rear driveshafts Build frame that will support tilt cab and sleeper. Cut down sleeper to desired size. Begin body work on COE cab. And here's where it all gets a little fuzzy for me... I think I need to balance the cab bodywork with the alterations it will need for things like HVAC, MC, pedals... etc.... Should I plan on having everything mocked up before thinking I have the body ready? Would I just pay in the future for things I think will work just fine later if I don't actually install and test them up front. Get my drift?? thanks, Rick
It's a newer chassis. The build thread is here: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=607966 Cliff's notes: '41 COE cab and 70s PeterBilt sleeper on 2002 Dodge 1500 frame. LS1 under the sleeper, 700R4, 4x4. Cab and Sleeper will tilt forward for access to the engine.
It looks like you pretty well have it figured out the way you listed it. I've seen too many guys over the years get the body work all done and then start on the chassis and find out that they have to make modifications to the firewall and floor boards to get the engine and trans to fit.
