Hey all, I just sold my T-bucket project to someone who had to have it more than i did so that leaves me with a 1964 Valient/Barracuda. Im doing some mild performance stuff to the 225 slant6 (no hemi under glass) but pretty much keeping the drive train stock for drive ability and fuel economy. My problem is i don't know what to do with the "look". Does anybody have pics of any mild customs of this type of car? Any Ideas? Any help or suggestions will be apreciated. thanks. Gregg
Not typical custom material, but might look cool fully shaven, slammed on some Cragers with skinny whites, and some kind of crazy panel job ( think cobwebs, and fish scales ) or a candy rootbeer brown over gold flake. Either way split the manifold and twice pipe that six. Who knows, could work. Try posting a pic, maybe some of the photchoppers will chime in.
i always wanted to do a phantom 63 barracuda......using a 63 valiant front and tail lights.....inboard the springs a touch .....throw a deep offset 8" wheel....narrow up the rear end just a little....leave the slant and the button in it....and slam it hard......but be prepared to cut the lower control arms to get it lined up....use a pair 15x3 up front ....maybe even use a dog dish cap....that 64 post in the ads ...got me thinking a body again......lol brandon
When you said '64 Valiant, I immediately thought of the Rinteria Bros Valiant drag racer (Rinteria Renteria Rentiria?). But then I saw the pics and it's got the "turtle" look roof, which changes the look entirely. I don't know. I can't picture it as a custom. It's easier to picture it with tubs and some fat Mickey Thompsons stuffed under the back. Some big wheels in back might make the huge back window seem a little smaller. Those are good cars though. Should be good reliable transportation and get decent gas mileage.
It just took a few seconds to find a picture of the Renteria Bros Valiant. This thing is bad ass. It looks better with the hood off so you can see the huge engine under the hood. Big Dad -- Your white Valiant sure looks nice! That thing must be fun to drive!
Leave the six in it. But,put one of those plastic"mock-up"hemi engine blocks in the rear window and dress it out to look real mean,do a set of mini-tubs and slicks under the back for a total fake out.In these days of "foux"patina and "rusty"fiberglass, why not?{We dont REALLY need to answer that one} Oh yeah, paint it Hurst black and gold
That is their slow one .. here is the fast one Valiant is a friend's but, I bought one .. going to build one ..I like
All I can think of is race stuff like Petty's 43 jr. and the Pandemonium funny - no customs. Maybe mild lowering with a rake - lose the wheelwell and rocker chrome - great paint job (is the interior black?) and wheels and tires - definitely wheels and tires - choice may be limited with the small bolt circle.
Thanks for the input so far guys. I know it's not your typical 60's "cool" car but i think its pretty neat. It was bought by my wifes uncle in 64 and my father in law gave it to us as a wedding present about 8 years ago. I can't descide what to do with it. except for keeping it running and driveable.. Gregg
Maybe you could go with the 60's Elvis movie race car or 1/32 slot car look, leave it pale yellow and add a tomato red or tarp blue racing stripe(s), a circle with it's "racing" number on the hood and doors, Pop off the hubcaps and paint the wheels pale yellow. Wear a white helmet and goggles everywhere you go.
I really like the clean white with blue roof one and I say do it in that style. Maybe a nice metallic "gold" or silver with stock hubcaps, redline tires, and just lower the rear a few inches? Thanks, Kurt
