So i guess i won't call it a turd anymore.... It's been more of a problem child anyway so that's it's new 'tongue in cheek' nickname .. Spent the past two week's thrashing on this trying to get it in paint before the weather get's real shitty so i have all winter to finish it without having body work or paint to deal with...pretty simple assembly for the most part being i've had it together and apart what seem's like 100 times now... A few small thing's will be projects to deal with but nothing major anymore... Only thing left to shoot is the hood and running boards and it'll finally be in one color...FINALLY. Installed the chrome grill tonight as you can see...but the idiot's gave me two upper bars and no lower, so i have to exchange that out so i can finish the grill. Just another little snafoo in the build of this thing I wont bore anyone with much typing........i'll just bore you with some progress pics of my truck... So without further nonsense.. Here it is as of tonight. Still have to shoot the dash sides in gloss yet..
like the truck, not to into the wheels though. are you going with those or are they just for the roll around?
It's all good..I like those too.. Paint for now will be what you see but with gloss red paneled flames more than likely ( see BAD BOBS Merc for the look i'm thinking of)... It's not primer, it's single stage black urethane with flatener... It'll be this way for a couple years, then it'll go solid GLOSS black.... I like the satin black look and have well before it became a fad. Unfortunately what was different before it too common now, but that's ok with me.. i'm not gonna change my way's now just because of that..
Damn Tony, that thing looks clean.I've always loved those models.I'm really diggin the 55-56 dash.KILLER
Thanks Shawn.. It's been a thought..Probably will when i go over them this winter..That and maybe get the right color for the spokes. I think they are a bit to light for the vintage they are...
Looks like it's really coming along! I also agree- the dash looks great in there- really stands out. Jay
What's not to like about the wheels?!! When I first saw the pics I was thinking "I hope those aren't just rollers...". Nice choice, Tony. I wouldn't fret too much about the flat black either. It's bound to be "out of style" again soon!
No fret'n here...Each of us dig our own thing, and not everyone's gonna like it..that's what makes the world go 'round Thanks guy's..i appreciate the kind words.. Tony. ps:..there 'aint no way i'm changing the rolling stock..at least not anytime soon.. i like 'em too much
i was going to ask you if it was a primer or not. The flattener gives it a way cleaner look than a primer black, it fades less, and if im not mistaken you can actually wash it every flat black car ive ever washed still looks like shit after i wash it
haha..nothing really.. Just keeping all the shit off the mill. It's a 355..Umm..10.5 comp, forged slugs, 500 somthin' Comp solid cam, ( can't remember the actual lift/ dur right now, roller rockers, world products heads, stainless valve, etc etc...nothing special, just enough for it to get out of it's own way..should be ok i think Yeah, the flattened paint is more durable than primer is. I've had a couple black primer cars and although they help up well, didn't stay the same color for long..This should be fine until it's time to shoot it gloss. Thanks guy's Tony
Looks great Tony ! Love the new dash. BTW -while most of those wheels were dark colored when new, some companies did offer them in light alluminum color also. I know, because I bought a set of Keystone's from Vic's in '72 for my '56 Ford wagon. Personally, I prefer the lighter color, but you can't lose either way! Good news....I understand that NYIRP is going to have a 3 day Nosalgia Weekend this summer, simaller to Lancaster's Sunday Niagara. After you finish the truck , you're gonna have to put some kind of gasser together and come out and play with us!!
Thanks for the info on the wheels Bernie.. Also thanks for the track info too.. Sounds good... No fund's for a gasser...maybe i'll just run the truck.. I oughta do ok in its class IF i can get it to hook that is, and if there even is a class for something like this Thanks again for the kind words guy's.. Tony
