Thats *****in! I got one quick question. Back in the day, I remember reading one of my uncles old Popular Hot Rodding or Hot Rod magazines and I think they were going to grudge race Project X against another car (maybe from another mag?). Does anyone else remember that?
Probably against Tom McMullen's blown V8 Dodge A-100. As I recall, the PHR car was better sorted out, and won the match in a walk.
I remember that. Don't remember which magazine or car but they pretty well beat Project X to death, put it back together and beat it to death again. From seeing the tear down photos on the GM rebuild there was really some half ***ed ch***is work done on that car over the years and a lot of scabs left over from previous builds. I followed the original project from the time they bought the car and did the first build and most every step after that. I liked the car but never wanted a clone.
Call me un-American, but I'm not a fan of the tri-fives either. Go to any car show or rod run and see how many hundreds of them you see. You'll get tired of counting after the first 300 or so. However, that one is pretty damned slick!
That is a shame how they ruined a piece of history. They should all be ashamed of themselves. That mickey mouse modern boring ******** could have been done to any other car and parked next to X .F@#$%ing gold chainers should stick to Mercedes. That car is the only reason I've seen "Hollywood Knights" about 12 times !
Looks alot like a 57 outa southern Oregon ,it was in the Portland roadster show about 7 years ago.......Im thinkin it was Medford....
I GOT IT! I got it, I know what to do..... Lets pretend that this one IS the real project X. Just think of the millions of viewers we could influence into believing it and make them think the one that GM did is an impostor...... The legacy of project X deserves to be preserved, like a fond memory of an innocent child. Instead of the molestation that the priests of GM did to it...
I think I'm going to sell my Roadster and build a Project X clone. Anybody got a '57 210 2dr. for sale? Or trade?
I believe that PHR ran a 34 (?) Ford pickup with a blown smallblock, single carbed, 4 speed in it against McMullens chopped, mid-engine Hemi A-100 and came out the winner. Not that the 34 was a better vehicle just better prepared, like AnimalAin said. Larry T
Yes, that might be it. Damn I wish I had that old mag. Anyone got that article to share? Project-X rules.
I remember the PHR truck as a '33. I believe it ran high 11's with the blown sbc. I recall an article on McMullens A100 where it ran 10's. That A100 was one of my dream cars.
If you consider the fact it was called a "project" I guess it was destined to be able to handle and stop eventually. Don't worry, high, low or in between it still looks like every other '57 chevy...
