Hey Doc, that was my first car too. At 15 my Dad let me buy one for $35, and he pulled me home on a chain. Only brake was the E-brake. And Norrland, your English is WAY better then our Swedish!!
Will keep u posted but have other things to do right now for a couple of weeks. Got a container from NY on Friday so i have 2 other cars to take care of. 1:st is a 41 Ford Tudor and 2:nd is a 59 Mercury Monterey!!
Hi! Great to see that there's Swedes in this forum. This is my first post ever in this forum since I've been to much of a coward to write in english but then I saw this thred and thought is was a great one to start with. Where do you live, more precise? Your profile says (Hälsingland) Hell-sing-land, and I've a sister living in Bolnäs, anywhere near there? Anyhow. Great work! Never seen that model before. By the way - are you planing on getting this gasser road legal?
Tjena maco! I live in Harmånger and its 25 km north of Hudiksvall and the Gasser i being built in Bergsjö. We are planing to give it some road miles but dont know if it will get road legal! It's built just for fun and maybe we will take it to Power Hotrod reunion and stockholm crusing but otherwise we will just have some fun with it. Where do u live then?
I live in Örnsköldsvik at the moment. Damn, thats spookey, thats only about 200km from Harmånger. But since I'm in my last year in technical school I will probably move soon. I've been called into the army... Anyhow, is it possible to get it roadlegal? Register it as a amatuer built vehicle? All though you would probably need som fenders and so on to protect pedestrians from the wheels.. But i recon thats your smallest problem since i figure you are going to swap the engine. Might have to swap/update the brakes and drivetrain pretty much to cope the new power. Why don't you contact the SFRO now in the early stages of the built and ask? Looking forward on some new pics!
You're typing better than about 80% of the population. Our culture makes it "cool" to type like a dingbat, so if you mess up, just pop your collar up.
Will get some more pics up next week when we work on it again. right now im waiting for my 41 Ford Tudor to arrive from New Jersey. It's in Stockholm right now and waiting for a transportation to Harmånger. So u live in Ö-vik? Been there many times and has some car friends there to
Sounds great. Do you think it will run this summer or is it to much work remaining? I don't have a clue of how much work you need to put in to a car to make it an "authentic" gasser. So you are buing yet another car? Do you have any plans for that one? Or will it just be a cruicer? Oh, so you have been in ö-vik? Horrible city to drive in if I may say so. Traffic lights, pot wholes and truckers everywhere. Otherwise, an o.k. city. Unfortunatly I don't know that much people with sweet rides here. Most of my friends either drives Civics, thier perants car or like I - a SAAB 9000 turbo. Accually my interst in hot rods barly existed untill a couple of months ago. I've always liked vitage cars but hot rods and customs hasn't been my cup of tea. But I love them now! To bad everybody in my surroundings would just think I was broke if i drove a vintage car... p.s. thank you jonny o for those encouraging words.
Sorry about the loosy update! But we have been working in the shades for a while, been picking up free and cheap parts for this gasser. Cant kill our Low Budget!! Will get pics next weekend again. Today i got us 2 rear wheels and tires. The wheels witch is rusty and shiny old 5-spokes costed us a box of beer for like 25$. Will remove the rearend from the Van real soon and also wash up the 350 from the van before we changeing Camshaft and put on the old Hi-Riser intake and a Predator carburator and building those Zoomie pipes. And soon the Little blower will go on there to. One of the tings that got us of track is that i got my 41 Ford and 59 Merc home from New Jersey last week. Will try and get it moving soon to!!
Well ... to me that's not really an update.....but I'm really looking forward for your next progress report. Thanks. / primerkid
Here is some pics. Its been other things takeing our time for a while but planes are still to take a drive in this Summer!! Kimmen making it shine here u can se how we cut up the wheelwells Inside upsidedown This is one of the two 5-spoke wheels i traded for a case of beer from a guy at work Original early Anglia wheels we would like to keep, but its hard to find tin 16" tires. When i talked to the local Tire-man in Harmanger i got hold of these 2 cool and tin 16" tires by the brand Carlisle. he had planes to use them on a ratbike but touht they would be better of on our Gasser. Stickshifter rules, seats are from my 41 and they willl get a new home in the Gasser, steeringwheel just laying and waiting in Kimmen garage, another friend at work had an Hei just laying around. have no pics on the Hi-Riser intake and Predator carb yet. But we still holding Budget!!!! Tonight we planing to relese the van from its rearend and also try to get it in place on the Gasser
hello, did Jan Forsberg help you with getting the 41 home from jersey ?? that swede is a friend of mine here last week ..
Not much for the moment. Have done some welding and getting the wheels blasted and powdercoated. Just moved my 41 Tudor to a bigger Garage so maybe we will take it there so we could make some progress with it.
Norrland, those Anglia wheels show up at Hershey, just saw one 2 weeks ago. I always have the "VW wheel" eye open and caught sight of it. Are you still looking for more? Hershey is only 50 weeks away!!
Mine ran a rotary (hey it was free) from an old Aussy touring car racer. My father knew his engine builder, this one had sat in the workshop ever since the RX7s stopped running in our Group C. Had some balls in that little car hough, could carry a wheel of the line! Never got it to street drivable though before moving on to a Hot Rod. I realy want to see this one done, that is just too cool.
Finally we have started to work on this little Escort wagon again. Got the wheels powdercoated at my work last week and got tires on the frontwheels yesterday. Rear wheels will get some tires over the weekend i hope. Have been hamering and cursing over the Volvo 140 rearaxle for sometime now. Had to change the disk to the smallest there was and modify and relocate the calipers but we could not get teh rims to fit cause they where like 1/4" to tight over the calipers. So we trowed the axle out the window and locater a Volvo 122 axle with drums instead and after some cuting and grinding we finaly ould try out the rims. The wheels will be about 5-4" outside the wheelwells on bouth sides but what the HELL! It will be different and cool.... As u can see its a really BAD pic. But u se how wide it will be with the rims on it...:-}
You, my friend, have a bad ass little project! Your car is going to be wicked looking when your done!
For now its out of the question! We properbly have to rework the rear chassie so the wheels not will get stuck in the innerside of the wheel wells.
How wide is that rearend? Are both axles the same length? We use to take the Ford Mavrick rearends that were 56 inch wide and use two short axles and lose 4 inch making it 52 inch wide. Might be able to do something like this with that rear end. Cool build.Watching this closely.
Think both axels are the same length. Will use it as is to begin with. If we think it's fun we will upgrade it step by step. Got to try and have fun with not so much cash involved!! :-} And these 2 tires (18,5") and rims will get married tomorrow or sunday!
That little car will be great. I have never seen anyone build a car upside down before. Keep up the good work.
When you post a picture of the Gasser sittig on it's wheels I'll send you a set of "Gasser" stickers for it Seriously PM me! Rocky
