  2. Every hot rod I've ever built or bought had a SBC. I love them.

What thing Kasey? My Lively Set inspired T? Well All I need is a T Body, a frame, a '58 283 with 6 2's, wishbones, V860 axle, spoked MC wheels, Muncie 4 speed, 9' rear, paint, wiring, interior, tires (avons and Hurst 8.20's), steering box, steering wheel, driveshaft, brakes, head lights, tail lights etc.....

Oh, you mean my '35? Well last week I had brakes! But this week I thought I should remake a line so now I don't. All that's left is shocks, rerun fuel lines and finish that brake line and I should be able to throw the interior back in and go. In theory at least.....

Great thread. This one lost it's flathead and received a '57 283 in early 1962, magazine is from '63.

    What carburetors are those?

I scored a '57 dual quad intake manifold so I'm looking for ideas on what carburetors will fit and what was period correct for '59.

WCFB Carbs would be the correct ones Matt. Chevy would be the stock but I believe Cad versions would be used for more CFM's. However I am not sure if they'll fit on a chevy 2x4.

  18. Those are in fact WCFB's. They seem to be NOS. I need to remove the choke on one.

WCFB's are Carter's by the way. Not sure if those are what Cactus has but they'd be what was on a '59 Vette I believe. At least that's what's on my '59 Vette setup out in the garage.

All right. Sounds good guys.. I think I saw somewhere that AFBs fit as well but I'm leaning towards the WCFBs to keep the factory appearance. Something as if a kid stumbled across a Corvette with a blown motor in the junkyard back in the day and thought he'd like to put the factory dual quad intake on his 283. :)

  21. Thankyou for this great thread,I never thought I was a chevy guy but all the flak I get about my 327 in the 27 really gets old.Funny the engine never says a word.
Great old pics... when I look at my car I like to remember those images.

I've never tried to put AFBs on that manifold; but I understand that it is not a simple bolt-on change.

When properly set up, the WCFBs run really well and are quire reliable. Especially on a small-cube SBC. I was that kid fifty years ago that put a set on the 301 in my 55 Chevy. Paid fifty bucks for matched carbs, manifold, linkage etc. Those days are long gone.

Duly noted. I must have misread it.

50 bucks!? Man.. They aren't kidding when they call them "the good old days."

i really dont thin k the sbc should be called a bellybutton engine. more like savior. to the hotrod world anyway.they were and still are plentful and cheap to build. and the hp you can get outr of them is ungodly for the money...i love them.ive have about 8500. in a sbc settin in a ot74 nova that will flatass fly.but i plan on putting it in a glass 41 willys. look out birds im flyin with ya....the 8500 was spent to build a drag engine but we changed our mines and decided to run it on the streets.but you can build on fast engine for more than half of that...praise the sbc...[IMG]

  26. Awesome!! I am putting an engine for a 671 and 2 port right now! If you don't mind sharing, what kind of blower restraint is that? I could use something similar for the digger we are building. Thanks, J
