I just pulled a flathead from a '51 F-5 today. Was an ex military truck with less than 50k miles on it. The weird thing was it had a funky plate at the base of the card and an extra regulator type thing at the rear of the motor. Were some of these old military vehicles propane powered? and if so will there be any "extra" oddities to be aware of? Thanks for your help and I will try to post pics when i get the engine back to the shop and cleaned up a bit.

If you can, show pics. I would not be surprised if you are looking at a vacuum plate hooked to the old style brake booster and/or 2-speed rear with controls.

Almost all the old 50's and 60's Military trucks had a governor on them, I rebuilt 1000's of them in my ARMY days.Guys used to try every thing they could to disable them and go faster.
