Technical PSA: 3M Weatherstrip Adhesive Difference

    This is a PSA on the two different types of 3M black weatherstrip adhesive - 08008 and 08011.

    I did a quick test and found that 08011 is in fact a better adhesive for weatherstripping made from EPDM foam rubber than the more commonly available 08008. 3M's own datasheet confirms this.

    I took a piece of new Dennis Carpenter door seal weatherstripping and applied both 08008 and 08011 to each side. After a 24hr cure, the 08011 had adhered much better to the foam than the 08008. The side with 08008 applied more or less just peeled away, while the side with 08011 applied was much more resistant to pulling up, to the point where it tore the foam rubber.

    I have always liked the black 3m weather strip glue over the yellow “chicken snot”

    didn’t even know they where 2 different varieties.
