Heres some pix of the wrenchin' we did on Danny's A bone on Sunday. Pulled the old truck heads and replaced em with some Offy 400's with centre neck outlets. Although it doesnt seem to leak, will prob have to pull the pass side head to drill and tap that hole too, what a PITA hehe !! Thought I only had to tap the one on the distributor side. Note how Nooch is really gettin his hands real grubby by providing instruction from the drivers seat haha !! Ok OK ,he did some wrenchin' too ........right Nooch ? Rat
Hey Guys, Big thanks to Rat for his help on this one. Wasnt without its dramas (errrr what second hole?) but some red sealant has stopped it leaking so far and will get me through until I can afford a second set of gaskets. The car pings a bit under load but with the comp somewhere between 8.6 and 9.2 im not suprised. I think i'll have to re-jet back to stock and see how that goes as well mas maybe beacking the advance of a little. It will be a process of trial and error to get it swinging im sure but thats half the fun right? Danny ps. big thanks to nooch who was the best front seat instructor of all time.
Looking good Dan. Good to see your making progress on your ride! Wish I could say the same ... As for the pinging: What fuel you running? I wouldn't have thought the new comp ratio would cause that. I used to run 10.7 to 1 in my old ute on good ol' super (mind you every tank meant minor advancing or retarding depending on the quality)! Try backing the dizzy of a smidge or higher octane fuel then maybe carbs? But do one thing at a time so you can work out the cause.
DR, what were gonna do is take the jetting back to stock as its prob running lean. If I checked the EGT's, I'm reckon they be pretty high. Jetting, timing THEN fuel if we get any pinging. But it IS running lean at the moment and a jet change back to stck will put us on the right track and give us a baseline with which to work from. Rat
