So we yanked the 318 out of the girlfirends '64 Dodge truck. A few hours later I noticed a puddle under the 727 towards the front. I'm thinkng that either...

A: The torque conver wasn't fully disengaged from the flex plate, so when we were jacking up the engine it was prying up on the input shaft, and damaging the front seal /pump.

B: The up and down movement of the transmission may have cracked a cooler line near the fitting. I was stuck holding the trans up for a few minutes and did let it drop down a bit.

The engine didn't want to lift up and out right away, which is what made me consider scenario "A". But I kind of think the dowels coming off the block would have taken most of the weight, and not put all the load on the input shaft.

It's been too late after work to really check it out this week, but I just wanted to hear you guy's thoughts on it until I can get to it.

Very likely the converter slid ahead allowing the fluid to leak. Try lifting slightly on the front of the converter and rotate it, while pushing in. There are splined shafts and the front pump that have to line up for it to go back into place. Or just pull it out for now, I would replace the front pump seal anyway, a couple bucks for a seal as long as you're in there make good sense, all the hard work is allready done.

Thanks man, I'm guessing the seals not too hard of a job. Nice truck by the way!

  4. so you pulled the engine without removing the radiator and disconnecting the trans lines?

i doubt you damaged anything unless the lines had a weak spot a leak in the line should be easy to find as stakebed said the converter probbably just slid forward a bit

you do have the trans supported somehow now right?
