Does anyone know where I can get a pulley that will fit the 230 chevy water pump on my cast iron zips water pump riser? It looks like about 2 3/4 inch deep. Local salvage yards have been no help.
I have the ones that HRP listed. But regular, standard SBC water pump pulleys for a SBC with the short water pump FIT perfectly Always a bunch of them on eBay if your local junk yard is no help. In fact ... eBay is where I stole the photo from http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/265-...r_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item2a0666feb1
I have the sbc pulley for the short pump and it doesn' t fit the 230 pump that does fit the cast iron riser. The sbc short pump pulley is too deep and the hole is too small. I've been told that each series of riser used a different pump and consequently a different pulley. True or not?
Then IMHO ... you have the WRONG water pump All the series use the same water pump. I have done this conversion a dozen times or more. I always use a water pump for a 1969 Nova 230 cubic inch. Get the standard no A/C pump. The pump for a factory A/C Nova is way different on the pulley snout. I have used this water pump on BOTH the iron ZIPS and the aluminum ZIPS. I buy mine @ NAPA Part number TFW 42082 Go here for the NAPA online info http://www.napaonline.com/Search/Detail.aspx?A=TFW42082_0258155267&An=599001+101969+50012+2012044#
If they all fit the same, then why didn't the one I got from So-Cal fit, because it didn't. It wasn' t even close. Wrong bolt pattern, different heaterhose outlet. The pump I currently have has the correct bolt pattern. It's the same as the one you pictured except for hub.
All the risers are the same but it appears YOUR water pump is different,, I have done the Zips setup twice and if you follow Deuce Roadsters advice and go to NAPA with the part number for the 6 cylinder water pump he posted you want have a problem. Water pumps can be very different,,even for the same application HRP.
1 ) It is possible that the one from So-Cal was boxed incorrectly from the factory. Bad deal but it does happen. So-Cal is usually pretty good about selling the correct part. MAYBE you got a water pump for a Snow Whites water pump riser. They use a Opel water pump. 2 ) The 230/250 6 cylinder water pumps ALL have the same bolt pattern where they bolt to the engine. 3 ) Like I said in my previous post, the 6 cylinder 230 water pumps for the factory A/C equipped vehicles has a WAY DIFFERENT hub arrangement. The A/C equipped cars used this style hub. I imagine that is the pump you have ... you need the other pump
You,re right, I have the a/c pump. And I do appreciate your help. The so-cal pump really threw me. It's not the one pictured on the riser . No idea what it is, but I' m guessing it's something GM. This issue is what caused me to join H.A.M.B. in the first place. Again, Thanks.
I am doing the Zip right now and just got the non-AC version and its fits fine. I have done the SNow White version also and there is no way a GM pump would fit.. thanks for the pulley numbers, I am missing the lower and need to get one..
Do not feel like the Lone Ranger ... A good number of folks have had the same problem. When they go to get a water pump, the parts counter person asks if the vehicle has A/C and USUALLY the A/C equipped vehicles get a better, more efficent pump so they say yes and end up with the incorrect pump. I like to install a small plate on the rear of the impeller. If you are going to have to buy another pump, I suggest a FlowKooler pump. They already have the plate on the rear. This was taken from their web page Pump is frequently used with Zip Riser set-up Has large and small fan hub bolt patterns Fits Chevrolet, GM applications Go here http://flowkoolerwaterpumps.com/catalog2/product_info.php?cPath=1_16_79&products_id=86
