hey guys, before im knee deep in mud hollar at a car in the middle of the woods, how exactly would you go about pulling the steering colum, with the wheel attached out/off of a 1941 chevy car? i dont need the box i just need the colum/wheel. thanx in advance tim
you get the box along with the column/wheel, since it's an ***embly. so figure out how to take the box out, or bring a hacksaw to cut it off
The mast jacket will come off inside the car. The shaft is part of the steering gear, which, according to the factory shop manual, has to removed from underneath. From what I remember, if the engine is gone, it'll come out from the top.
its a full car so i figured id either have to pull the box or the wheel to get it out with out distroying the firewall. seeing as i dont want the box figured id just leave it. theres not a bolt or coupling that conects it to the box? sounds like a batery powered sawzall put were the motor used to be should get rid of the box for me....
"From what I remember, if the engine is gone, it'll come out from the top" im asuming that your talking about the box itself right there correct?
Yes, I meant the complete ***'y could be removed if the engine wasn't in the way. If you need only the mast jacket, it'll come off from inside the car. 302
