Can someone please help a newb? I see an item in the cl***ifieds that I want to purchase but I do not see any way within the site (like you would on Ebay). I left a message for the seller but they have not responded.

They may not have responded because you're a newbie, and sooooo many guys are paranoid now about fraudulant internet activities. One of the things guys are always told to look for is how long the seller/buyer has been a Hamb member. With that said, you're on the right track doing a post, so as said, wait.

Send the member another conversation and give him your phone number & location, be willing to send him any type of payment he ask.

Being a newbie, people here are very leery, then wait on his reply. HRP

Be careful about how you pay for it...........don't do a Friends and Family transaction if you use Paypal.

How about if you're actually friends with the person?

OK, I keep seeing warnings about the PayPal "Friends and Family".
What's the deal ? Scam alert ?....or is it a viable way to exchange $$ for merchandise ?
Does PayPal charge the 2.9% + 30¢ to the seller ?
Or does that apply only to businesses ? PayPal's explanations are vague on that topic.

Tell us more so that we aren't the screwed .

F&F is free for both parties, so long as the funds are in the account or are drawn from a bank. If from cc, then 2.9% + $0.35 is paid by the RECEIVER. There is no "buyer protection" for issues that may arise with the transaction (this is, ostensibly, because there wasn't anything bought or sold... it was just friends and family sharing money).

All cc transactions for "goods and services" are 2.9% + 0.35 paid by the SELLER. There is certain "buyer protection" for issues arising from the transaction. And, while PP claims there are also seller protections, this is basically false... as they almost never side with seller, regardless of how much do***entation a seller provides.

If you want to buy something from me (check my Trader Feedback on my Profile page... I've done lots of deals with lots of regulars here, for many years), you can send via F&F, or if you use the G&S method, you need to gross up the amount you send to cover the fees. You can either do the math manually, or PP actually has a place during the sending process where it will gross the amount up for you. So... if something I'm selling you is $50, I get $50 on my end, and you sent $51.80.
