Just picked up a HF purple gun on special. It comes with a 1.4 tip but I also need to spray high build primer surfacer so I was wondering if that tip is OK and if not what should I use. HF doesn't carry other size tips so what do I need and where can I find ones that will fit a purple gun?.......Bob

So you say you can spray a high build primer with just the 1.4 tip?

  5. If high build means thick you simply use thinner generally one to one or two to one until you get the viscosity where the gun can handle it just fine and spray multiple coats if that's what you need to do. I did my entire car in acrylic lacquer on a 90-degree day and it turned out beautiful using that exact same gun. https://49fordcoupe.smugmug.com/Painting-the-Car/

It's going to be epoxy primer surfacer going on fiberglass and from what I've read it will be thick so I want to have the right set up when I start.

I drill them out with a 1/16 bit. Works great, not so well before I did that.

Best to use a 1.8 - 2.2 and no reducer...the more you thin it to compensate for the small tip size, the more shrinkage you get as the primer dries.

  9. I have two purple guns, one with the 1.4 tip and one with a larger tip & needle for primer that I bought off the HF web site. I think my bigger tip and needle were listed in the parts manual that came with the gun. Regardless, contact them on their web site asking for the part. They should still have it. It cost more than the gun did but still $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ cheaper than the big guys.
