    Goodies Speed Shop, 1963:
Mel George set up the Torqueflite trans behind the BBC in Goodies' English Ford 'g***er'.
Early ride for Jungle Jim Lieberman. I sat in the drivers seat, there was an Art Carr 'tower' with ****ons on top.
I asked Mel "Why the drivers seat on the right side?"
Mel: "It's a little English car!"

I remember swapping a '64 slant six along with its push****on transmission when I was young. Found an aluminum box to house the shifter mechanism. The ****ons were round so no problem poking holes for them. Cut the slot for the park lever with a skil saw.

  3. Here’s the shifter in my 64 Chevy II… 1FF9F6AF-6809-4CF7-8418-B28B271958BC.jpeg 34A05BA3-5EDF-44F8-BE9E-172D71125F8D.jpeg
Push ****on w/park lever shifter for the 1965 one year only 727 with slip yoke behind the 482 CI stroker Mooneyham blown 409! Real fun to push these ****ons!

Dodge A-100 vans had shifters that would work well and they have long cables

Side note, the 65 tail housing can be installed on a 64 trans to give you a slip yoke. Too many internal changes on 66 and later to work.

My experience with push****on shifters is that they'd get out of adjustment and not "catch" the right gear. Almost always at the dashboard end, but easy to adjust to compensate for wear. The A-100 (also used in some D pickups) unit was much more robust and didn't get out of adjustment so easily. MoPar loved the things, they worked well and kept the steering wheel area open. I think Rambler used them for a while, too. Edsels had that (Touch-matic?) central column thing that turned out to be a monster IIRC.
I used an A-100 shifter to make my '63 727work behind the 383 I put in my '57 Coronet. Couldn't make the parking pawl work, or get the e-brake hooked up.

  8. I think its worth the h***le. My only problem now is deciding on a Wedge or my Chrysler 331. I've been building up my 331 over the last few months, but now Wilcap shows their 331 to 727 adapter as being "unavailable". I contacted Wilcap two days ago, but no one has responded to me.

I just don't think I can make my Wedge look as cool as my 331. The Wedge will just look too modern for the direction I want.

  9. Finally got one that I wanted. Took a few ebay listings to get it all, but I got it all together. Feast your eyes on this:

That push ****on unit in your picture looks like one from a 56 Plymouth to me. There was a separate chrome handle that mounted underneath for the park but I could be wrong. Mercury in 57 had a push****on as well, the "N" ****on also ran the starter. George Jetson had one as well.

  11. Its a hodge-podge of 1956 Mopar. You're correct on the separate lever for the parking brake. I'm good with that because the car it's going into has a separate lever for the parking brake right next to where I want this thing.

I will lose direct access to 1st gear, but I'm good with that for the moment. I hope to find a shifter unit from a 1956 Imperial in the future because it has the direct ****on for first gear AND it looks just like this one.

For now, the four ****on shifter will get me along just fine.
