just spent the last couple of hours looking in tech and can't find anything on this.
I have a 56 desoto trans that I am putting in a 30 coupe and I need to set the adjustments on the ****on shift control. I have not touched the cables going into the trans,as I have heard that it's almost impossible to get them back right once they are moved. I need to know how to set up the ****ons and cables. I an going to use the original housing and ****on hardware.

anyone know how, or a site I can go to and get this info? thanks, Ron

Cool idea. I had one in my dart. I would say just use a junkyard reference piece.

I always just leave the clip off the shifter housing (where the cable connects) and adjust the cable until it "stays" in each gear. You can slide the cable off the stud at each gear and physically see if it matches the detents.

BTW what "cables" are you referring to? I have only one cable on my push ****on torqueflites (as far as the shifter goes) the other cable is for the parking drum brake. The lever is for throttle pressure.

I think the manual sez" have a helper hold the N ****on on the shifter pushed in whilst you adjust the adjustable collar on the shift cable,to where it touches the transmission case, and back it off to the next lockdown screw hole",or something to that effect.
I don't have the manual here with me,but that comes to mind from when I had the ****** out of my 58 Dodge to fix some leaks.

If I access the manual later today,i'll look it up for ya'.

    From Glenn's repair manual.

Engage the REVERSE push ****on. Loosen the control cable adjusting clip and remove the neutral starting switch. Insert a screwdriver through the neutral starting switch hole and lightly pry on the lever to hold it in the reverse detent position. Move the control cable in and out while observing the amount of free travel. Then position the cable in the center of free play. Tighten the adjusting clip screw and install the neutral starting switch.

    Or call Flatdog.

I was ***uming this was a Torqueflite, if it's a Powerflite (2 speed) I'll look further.
