Roy Rockwell was a great friend of mine,, He accepted only the best (in everything, Except HIS faulty heart)
the Model A you have was perfect when Roy begin altering it.
EVERY PANEL was taking apart, and the rebuild then begin..

You have a SUPER car that will last for ever, I am sure, trouble free.
The hood is ajar in picture, IT fits better than is shown !!!
Bob Huffman >> a friend of Roy's for over 60 years, miss him everyday..

Hi Bob thank you for reaching out, the hood is just set in place for the photo, not fastened. He built a very good rod.

Scott does have a beautiful car , it's a great clone of the original.

However, there is only one original. Danny Brent sedan, and it's parked in my garage in Orange County, California. California. It is difficult owning a car which is so well known by many people. Minnie tell me that I should leave it alone and not modify it, others like Too I Talk Pat Ganahl called me. I should do a complete rebuild of the car, taking it back to the way it looked in streetrider magazine in September of 1978.

The car is weathered and worn, and like Scott said it was in rough shape. The gentleman who owned it before me bought it and eventually took out a title loan on the car. At one point he got into an accident and it tore the front axle away, hit the oil pan and broke the batwing off from the frame holding the right side wishbone. Wishbone. When they put the whole thing back together they used either the wrong axle or adapter plates and when I got the car the tire stuck out past the fenders. To remedy this, they took a saw to the fiberglass fenders and trimmed them. It's part of the history and I've left that alone, just like the paint.

The original Danny, Brent sedan will be at the Grand national roadster show later this month. I will be there Friday and Saturday and Sunday and this will be the first time in about 40 years. Anybody will see it with steel wheels. Problem is that beautiful. Red color that everybody loves is more like Chevy orange red. Thus the WheelSmith wheels which I bought 3 years ago and had powder coated in their standard red are being repainted. I will be running 145-15s up front and 235-75r15's out back. I've made other improvements over the last 6 months.

I have not been here on jalopy journal in 4 years, it's great to see people still talking about the car. As I pull parts out of it, people want to buy them. For example, 4 or 5 years ago we put in Chrome Ram's Horn exhaust manifolds but they have faded, and friends want to buy them. Next year I will be pulling out the powerglide and upgrading to an overdrive and a good friend of mine in Texas wants to buy the transmission even though it's a powerglide out of a corvair.

I will never repaint the car and never repair the nicks and scratches and dings that are part of its history. In 2025. The transmission will get replaced, we will get a new apron made and I have a friend in Arizona who has offered to do that. We also have a windshield frame and will be getting that chopped so that the rotted one can be replaced.

Danny is a difficult car to own, that's what I call the car. Yes I talked to him. And I do talk to Danny Brent several times a year. He's going strong but at 82 He's not building cars anymore, he's flipping them. Does the car drive like a new build? Hell no, it has rattles and squeaks and bumps and jumps along the road but I would not trade that at all. I did not want a new build.

What many of you don't know is that I grew up across the street from Pete Chapouris, as a kid I did hit his gardening when they lived in Arcadia. I was influenced by the cars that he built, I saw them out of my bedroom window and listen to them as He approached the neighborhood, often being able to hear them from a mile away. That style of hot rod is in my blood.

I've chatted with Scott a few times and he has a great clone of the car. I look forward to seeing all of you in a couple weeks at Grand national.

Pat Ganahl credited Danny Brandt with making red a popular car color for street rods. The original car of the Danny Brent sedan is 54 Buick Skylark red

Scott, I ran into a guy the roadster show named Robert Gonzalez from Washington State. Originally. He now lives in Bakersfield. He said in 1987 he built a clone of my car, did he build yours? Did he buy your red chopped mudley two-door sedan?

I think Pat was being generous. There were plenty of red hot rods before Brent’s creations, remember Titian Red? So many cars in the old magazines were credited with Titian Red lacquer. I think he meant Danny popularized bright red on “resto-rods”, along with chrome wire wheels.
Brent’s Tudor was bitchin’, Scott’s is right there with it.

It seems Mr Brent built some other red cars too….
A Model A sedan delivery (converted Tudor)

And (my personal favorite) a ‘34 2dr sedan.

Solid colors, chrome wire wheels and Jag rear ends ruled the world in the mid ‘70s.
Any more Danny Brent creations out there?

It seemed that he built a car a year back in those days, always with stance and style, in the 90's when Gibbons came out with the 36 ragtop, he built an aqua one with florescent belt line graphics, It was on the cover of R&C and started a trend,. NIce stuff......
