I once tried to rebuild a Model B pump that was full of fine silt formed into nearly concrete right up to the rim--I think the engine had actually run until it was fully blocked. Spent an hour digging it out of the bowl and suddenly realized that I was looking at my knee through the pump...whatever it was in there ate the whols floor out of the thing.
