Keeping bizzzy,by also doing some good.
Have big things to do,but not talking about the big stuff right now, just small things.
A few months ago,I went over as much of my old rod as I could EZ,checking nuts,n blots an wear an tear.
That's good too do more often then I do it!.
This week I'm playing with rebuild of one of my 1957 Ford "Y" Distributor, this one is dual point**by<a aftermarket added plate "Dyna-Flyte #378-D an was missing a few small parts. These are not the very same as Ford did,in a way the plate is better then Ford's dual point plate,in that after market one has better bearings built in.
Been fun,had to design new wiring set up,even though wiring needs to do same things as always, but the missing stud an insulators, plus there was a copper strap between point sets=all were missing along with both points an the condenser. {Mallory used a condenser that was a fat br*** one} but most duel point used a standard one for point,no matter if one or two points. As much as the Mallory big fat condenser is vert ***y looking< there now hard to get,an not a too work must have, for good spark.
The DF#38-D plate dose not have room or a screw hole for inside cap condenser=Con. must be mounted outside cap.
Prob. is,there is not a EZ place on out side of cap ether. So drill an tap Dist. body for a place too mount cond.. It's best I'm told to keep the condenser as close to points as you can,vs having it over on the coil< Even there it works, but I been told goes bad sooner .
Maybe later I can add some pics.
I'm sure others can add some keep bizzy things they do as well. ?

  2. When Dad starts getting cranky in the house, Mom sends him out to the shop to have a putter. Those are her exact words. I always feel better after a putter in the shop. I don’t always get a lot done, but spending time out there always recharges my worn out batteries.

Dana, in theory you could put the condenser all the way back in the trunk if you wanted. The problem is that the lead length affects the actual capacitance value (that's what a "condenser" is, it's an obsolete name for a capacitor) and the total capacitance has to be accounted for.

Back in the day, production tolerances might vary more than they do today. If a given ignition condenser was performing OK, points were wearing evenly, a lot of guys wouldn't mess with the condenser in a Tune-Up. Electronic ignition made all that arcane stuff go away. But if a feller knew what he was doing, got the spring tension just right, good capacitor, er condenser, some distributor cam lube on there, good point alignment, set the dwell correctly etc., I bet they lasted in service a long, long time. If not, not.

I know, that often I waste a lot of time looking for things I know ,I must surely have!
I think most of us have buckets of old screws, nuts ,bolts n washers! Kind of dirty,or rusty n missmatched.
I hunted for what I needed, came up short of about 1/2 of. So made a ACE hardwarestore run too get nice new stuff, even poped for stainless steel . As long as I'm getting new, mayy as well do it clean n shinny.
Make my rebuilt Dual Point look pretty too!< OK no one but me will see it,but the It makes me feel more like I did a good job.
Time too fig out the next thing to Putter with.
    What's your's ?

    My putter…
Had a rear end issue last year.

    https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/ford-banjo-question-34-pickup-problem.1206145/

    Finally got to the problem.

The main inner drive shaft adapter spline broke at the rear differential.
I’m thinking the adapter was placed in the tube backwards and welded in.
The broken weld was well done but I believe it was installed it incorrectly.
Take a look and compare the pointed looking teeth on the spline gearing.

I flipped the adapter to the correct spline gearing, drilled and installed a pin perpendicular to the shaft and welded the pin ends in.
