building 51 plymouth with 273/ 727. trying to figure out what to use for trans crossmember. have seen 2 x 4 but seems like overkill. trans is from 70s truck with big bulky mount. wondering what others will fit. have seen the premade "universal" kits but not sure on what drop to use so thinking of building my own. any input helps.

A 727 is way overkill. They were never used on a 273 and on a 318 only in heavy duty trucks. A 904 would be better, or a later model OD.

A better Question is what engine? If the flat 6 "73RR" here on the board makes adaptors for that engine & pre '62 non big block Mopar V8s. On the Hemi & hemi based Polys the 904 won't work.

tranny crossmenber is fairly easy. 1X2(or so) to brackets on the frame, with ears on either side of the big loop tranny mount for a crossbolt to run through the mount.
