I am putting a 36 Ford Flathead in a 32 ch***is an need some help. The Flathead trans mount is a circle with wings. I think I need to remove it but what do I do next?? I bought a 32 trans mount from Vern Tardel so do I just remove the 36 mount and slide the trans into this new mount?? is there more parts I need?? Does any one have some pictures of a build of theirs that can show me how this looks?? Any help would be great.
The rear mount is a stack of three pieces, a cup, a plate, and the rubber with mount ears on '36...you keep the first two pieces and subs***ute the '32 plate and rubber ring for the third. Depending on what else is in the ch***is you may need the '32 clutch arm.
Once you get the correct `32 rear trans mount installed, you will want to be sure you don't mount the front of the engine up too high. In order for the rear trans mount to fit flat against the center "K" member the front crankshaft centerline has to be 2 3/8" ( 2.375") below the top of the frame rails. If you don't have a pair of original `32 V8 engine mounts, you can build a pair like these. these are on a 59A block, but mounts on a `36 engine would be the same
Someone on Ford Barn posted detailed dimensions of the Front mounts for fabrication from steel plate. The area where they bolt on exists on all flatheads, though on a few late engines you migh need to drill one or two of the bolt holes. Original mounts require some clearance work at pumps and a subtle relief for fanbelt when used on 1937-up engines
Also, note starting ratchet nut on engine and crank guide on crossmember. Those provide a perfect reference point for getting engine axis right.
Reproduction cast '32 front engine mounts show up regularly on Ebay and the fabricated ones (in kit form) show up in the HAMB cl***ifieds. Frank
These are really nice. You can also make these for a SBC if you want to use the stock crossmember in a Deuce. This is traditional as the original mounts have always been expensive even back in the 60's. We made our own but they weren't this nice.
Thanks everyone on the tips!! I forgot to mention that I am using a Model A front crossmember. I used the Flathead mounts that Vern talks about in his book. That all looks good it's the trans mount that I was wondering about. Mike
MEC ( Model Engineering Corp.) sells the frt mounts and you will need the 32 lower water outlets he makes also.
