yes, I am dead serious. I have always wanted to drive on of the pulling tractors with four Allisons but my pocketbook just doesn't offer me the chance
We have so many tractor pulling teams here in italy. Just for the sake of it im gonna investigate if any run allison motors. I wanna hear those scream. Anyways Guffey, are you rebuiling the blown engines? I would think its more expensive that scoring a running one...or not?
Not stealing a thread, this is definitely Allison-related - I just posted a couple of YouTube videos to anther HAMB thread made by a guy who's building a street-drivable Allison V-1710-powered 39 Chev sedan - using one of a couple of Allison V12's he bought from E.J. Potter. If there is perhaps any possibility of someday making "Quad Al" into an actual running car, you might get some Allison tech info and/or some tips and inspiration from what this guy is doing with his project. Allisons really don't scream. They are low rpm engines that have a very distinctive growl. When they are in multiples and start to sing in unison, it is better harmony than a barbershop quartet.
all Allison V12 were not Aircraft engines! Some were built and used in other applications like PT boats and I heard some tanks. the engines not built for aircraft use are built heavier than the plane engines. When NTPA and Thompson Ct. Speedway put on Nationals level pulls I got to meet a bunch of NTPA big time pullers and in fact got to be friends with Art Arfons back around 77 He offered me an Allison still crated for 1500$ at that time he had "Oh about 3 dozen in my warehouse" One of the pullers insisted he bought a s**** PT boat for the Allisons he had in his tractor then and he and Art are the ones told me that Allison V12 got used new in more than planes now if the CRS would clear I could tell you that second guys name!Art was pulling then with his single turbine tractor his second or 3rd I forget but his first had a Huey turbine in it. The Arfons family may very well still have Allisons in the warehouse!
Not exactly O/T but a small word for Sam Bonner...the B in J B Weld..Sam formulated his product while running an auto parts store in Sulphur Springs Texas,,,Good **** from an old E Texas boy.. Their factory still in S. S .Tex.

How much stuff did you get with it when you started? Just the headers would be a ton of work! Looks like you have quite a collection as well.
This what I got about 20 years ago. The engines and the fibergl*** body were missing. I found the headers used and thought they would look ok. It had little 90 degree bends made from sink u traps when it was first built.
