I love your rules. Makes me wish that I still lived in NC. I'm trying to build an Austin to run AA/Gas. It is extremely difficult to get enough people together with enough dedication to build these cars to truely reflect the gasser era. One group has nice cars, but they have a few quirky rules. They want to bracket race and put on a show, with the emphasis on show. The other group has a few nice period cars. This group has fast cars and does not bracket race . But a few of the cars have modern so called nostalgia wheels and goofy looking bodies. The excuses for not getting it right are endless. My Austin is an old gasser and has a steering box I have yet to identify. Keep on doing what your doing. Maybe people up here in the northeast will be inspired to tune up their programs and make them a more accurate representation of how it was. The people who say this isn't 1967 anymore should take up something more creative like sweater knitting.
Thanks Blownhemi We are trying hard to make this work. As for the people who say it's not 1967 any more there are plenty of classes out there for them to run. I'll welcome them to ADRL Pro (Extreme) Mod any time they would like to race 2012 style with no rules, other wise the local tracks have bracket races every sat night they can run any thing they want there. I like the modern day gassers and There is a place for them but not at our race.
Why does my profile on here say I'm a newbie I've been here since 2006 I was wondering why every body was welcoming me here.
OK thanks that may take me a while I have posted more in the last 2 weeks than since I've been on here.
You have our attention with your Willys and the other projects, so just keep on posting pictures and info, we love it.
I have been to a couple of ADRL races at Columbus and Norwalk. We would be in the bleachers for the better part of 11 hours, so that we wouldn't miss anything. I'm planning on attending the race at the end of September. Jim Oddy who used to tune Josh Hernandez's cars is a mentor to us gasser guys. His old Austin gasser is going to be featured in the next Rodder's Journal.
Yea Jim and I are real good friends we have had our up and downs on the track but didn't let it get in the way of our friendship. I raced against him way back when Fred Hann drove the car.
You could probably make the missing parts for that pump, looks similar to a Holley Blue fuel pump "paddle" setup. My car has 32" ladder bars right now, some caveman took the original one's (39") out. If you change the rule to 48" and longer.., ouch, I'd have to do some work on mine.
The Willys is a short wheelbase car. I think they come in somewhere around 101". Are Austins or Anglias allowed to run with you guys? My car isn't built yet, and I'm seriously thinking about going injected/ 4 speed, instead of blown/automatic. My car would work better with a shorter ladder bar, but it looks like my car already has 4' ladder bars.
That's just something we were talking about doing we will consult with people that are more in the know than me before we do that. I know that most of the car's back then had long bars but not all. I guess we are trying to do stuff like that to keep the cars a little hard to tune trying to keep the et down so we don't have to put a break out on the class. We won't do anything with out a lot of thought. We still need to talk when you get a chance.
Yes we love the Anglias if done right. I had one last year it had a ladder bar that went all the way to the bell housing I never checked the length so I don't know how long it was. It went 5.88 in the 1/8 but it was an automatic car. If I had keep it I was going to put a clutch in it. [/IMG]
That pump looks very much like a bilge pump, likely a brass/bronze casting? i bet those a garden hose fittings. I bet you remember the original BG400 pump? befor they made them from aluminum? They look just like that water pump, just a little smaller. I have a similiar one from jim morrison. No alcohol!? could i cheat a little?
I would bet that you would have to lose the dry sump, front drive distributor and fuel cell for starters.
I screwed myself when i built that car, wanting to run fast brackets and now i've lost interest so it is sittin there collecting dust. But i think those pumps are modified bilge pumps and a marina can fix you up with the missing parts.
I hear what you're saying. I've been gathering parts to build a blown gasser. Now I think I want to go injected and run with Quain's group instead. I wonder if they'll allow a Clutchflite behind my small Hemi. But then I'd have to have two of those, because one is sure to break.
I have about 2 more hours work to do tonight (eating supper right now) then I might try and get my build tread started what should I name it.
There's a thread here titled "Fading Thunder...Abandoned Dragstrips in Virginia and the Carolinas#. There is a picture in post #231 of Gene running another A/G Willys at Jackson, SC. I can't quite make out the name on the other car, It might be "Hemi Hurricane". Also pictured is Ed Skeltons Altered W/B Mustang. Gene ran a speed shop in Anderson, SC for years. His tow car was a blue '58 Ranchero.
Your right here's a pic of Gene's tow car he towed all over the country with that thing he put the original grille out of the tow car in the Willys. On the door it says Gene's speed shop.[/IMG]
Ed Skeltons Altered W/B Mustang also had Genes Speed Shop lettered on it. Note the Ranchero had M/T Rader Wheels on it. Gene sold a bunch of those in the 60's. By the way I met you at J.Eds BBQ a while back. I used to help J.Ed with the fuel dragster.
