I had a Flatlanders 5 window (Now New Age Motorsports)...Loved it...sold it to John "Rocketman" Paxson...he loves it too..now I have a Rust no More out of Louisianna...I really like it....But that all said, if I were building one from ground up...it would be a New Age first, second choice would be a Be-Bop...New Age has the most accurate body lines and driprails...Be-Bop had nice lines with driprails, but the driprails are solid and don't actually have a gutter in them...my third choice would be Rust no More.................the yellow one is a Flatlanders (New Age) and the red one is a Rust no More
New Age 32 five window built by my friend Darwin Albritton. For your frame consider Gary Maxwell at http://www.blackboardhotrods.com/ .
I built a 5 window using a New Age body about 7 years ago , and AT THAT TIME I had a lot of problems with it , BUT, apparently it was due to a partner there at the time was screwing everything up and I was told he was gone. I wound up getting reimbursed a bunch off the cost because of all the extra work we had to do to make it right. The other problem that showed up after I finished the car was shrinkage in several places because it wasn't sured long enough before I got it.The body guy got it perfect, painted it, everything looked great, but several months later sunken spots began showing up and I was told it was due to lack of curing. The owner is a straight shooter I think and has probably got it together again but I haven't talked to anyone that's dealt there since. All that said, I was at SEMA last fall and looked at the steel bodies put out by United Pacific www.uapac.com and they were impressive for sure! I was told the price complete was under $20,000. I guess if you're building a keeper I would save/ borrow/ steal to get one of these over a glass one, but that's your call.
I looked at Kiwi Connection's 5 window bodies a few years ago and they looked REALLY good, but don't know if they still do them.
I didn't specify. I had t-buckets on the brain...But, I still stand by being able to find a metal body for less than $8K..
I have always been a fan of windshields that swing out but I was scolded once because I was told it was hazardous and unnecessary to have that. Plus, you'd get all dirty driving? I'm still going to make mine fully functional...
I just received my Kiwi Konection $1800 frame this week. Excellent job, all really neat tig welds, I'm stoked. My roadster that I'm driving now has one of the glass bodies that Kiwi Konnection used to sell, I don't know if they still do them, but they are also a class act. Australian made too.
Has anyone here dealt with this company before? For that price, I am more than happy to do all the work myself...
http://www.deucecustoms.com.au/325wcoupe.html Excellent Australian made bodies, pretty sure they have a distributor on the US west coast Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
I am right now in the process of building a 5 window coupe with a NewAge body and a Ionia Hot Rods chassis. I have had the body for just about a year now. What I had to do was to puts some money down on the body to reserve a build date. I dont recall the amount. I think at that time Ed was about 5 months out. He was quite close on the production date and it took about 1 month to get it. The quality is very nice. Its not perfect but you have to remember its handmade. It will need some body work, but I have seen many other companys stuff that is much worse. The body was very flat when I got it. I would recomend putting it out in the sun and heat to help cure the fiberglass and get the stink out of it. Some panels did shrink and a few minor air pockets showed up in the fiberglass. Overall I am quite happy with the quality of the body and the inner structure is unlike any others. I do belive its a well built piece. The body is not cheep, but I think you get what you pay for. I think I'll start putting out feelers for a forgotten project car with a New Age body when I have money in hand. I have a fresh flathead with about 2,000 miles on it and fresh T-5 and good old banjo ready for the setup... All I have to do now is finish my car and sell it.
about $13,000 with all the goodies I want... That's why a Gibbon is looking a little more realistic to me!
They are pricey. When I get disgusted working on the glass body I bought, I get on line and look at the New Age bodies and then look at the price and then go back out to the garage and work on the one I have. It will never be as nice as the NA body, even though I have put steel driprails and a Brookville cowl vent on it. Dennis D
Davicky. Didn't do enough research. Didn't have the knowledge about glass bodies I do now. Went with price instead of patience.......Dennis D
I dont think the Gibbon name is what it use to be in the 80's. I would use Redneck or NewAge, period. Mainly because they have the most STOCK looking features.
I agree , many of my mates have Deuce Customs bodies. My problem was that I wanted stock height, and no one in Australia did one. So I commitioned an interstate glass body company to raise the roof on a 3" chopped body up to stock. Regards Dave.
