My Autozone POS choke cable requires constant attention as there is not enough friction in the pull to keep it from vibrating out and choking the engine. I checked Advanced and they have the same crappy cable. I have not checked NAPA. Can some one please direct me to a quality choke cable that actually works properly, hopefully someting made in the USA. New manual choke carbs (only one has a choke cable). Its the cable thats the problem as the choke never vibrated on until I installed the cable. If I can't find a quality Auto cable, I can purchase a pull cable from Aircraft Spruce, they're just generally more expensive since its an aircraft part. Thanks

I'll check NAPA since you seem satisfied with the quality. Thought of Pull-a-Part but seems everything at the local one is FI and would not have a choke cable. I hate rebuying parts because of poor quality. Thanks guys.

Aircraft Spruce has high quality cables aqnd also ones that twist lock
    5' t handle 1/4turn lock p/n05-15000 $24

those people that package cables for autoparts stores seem to have a competition on who can wrap the cable the tightest before they package it .

Quick fix. Pull the cable out a little ways and put a slight kink in the wire and put it back in. The friction should solve your problem.

  8. Another vote for NAPA cables. Running 2 of them on the '47 for throttle & choke and they are holding up fine.

I'm gonna put a kink in the cable per handyandy before I drive the coupe to NAPA tomorrow to check out their cable. If the kink "don't kink" and hold, and the NAPA cable doesn't resemble the Autozone cable, I'll get the NAPA cable. If that fails, I'm calling Aircraft Spruce. I appreciate all the input and figure the NAPA cable will get it done. Thanks guys

I've used the NAPA cable this winter. The package had made in US.The cable works fine.

  11. I have used some good motorcycle cables. Try one of your local shops and see if they have anything that might work

NAPA also catalogs one with the twist-lock feature. Stuff like this is in a catalog entitled something like "Supplies and accessories"...if you can gettem to give you one, it is full of little goodies that cannot be found by the "...and does this have power steering" guy who is probably running the counter now that old Edgar who knew everything has dropped dead.

I have also used a pump pliers and smashed the cable housing a little bit to tighten it .

Me too, Aircraft Spruce has lot's of cool stuff. Check out some of their 135,000 candle power landing lights that can be fit into the high beam bucket on 4 headlight cars. :D

I'm with chaos10meter: crimp the housing a little bit at a time near the knob until you get the friction you need.

Hell Judd, I can't send it your way, you'd be racing it this weekend. You'll need a carhauler to haul all your racecars. How's the 406 Galaxie coming?
I've bought from Spruce for years, just not as much since I sold the 206. You get used to quality aircraft parts and when I started hot rodding again, I was/am very disappointed in the lack of quality in just basic auto parts. Lotta junk out there.

Yup, get one out of an old truck, make sure it's an original, and in good condition.

You guys have got to stop posting stuff like this! Yesterday, it was a $2M tubing bender that I've got to have. Now it's 27 different things from this place! I don't have the money. And don't actually need any of it... but it's too cool to pass up!
