Timebandit, I think The single radius rod looks cleaner, but will spring wrap be an issue? What if the radius rod was fixed at the axle and pivot at the frame? no way the axle could twist then huh?
Tikmebandit, did you use the front 2/3rds or the back 2/3rds of the spring? I have 2 Model A springs I was going to use, maybe leave out a leaf or two. How wide were the Toyota springs?
Caddychris: If the radius rod is fixed at the axle and piviots at the frame it would be the same as a split whishbone. You need to make it strong enough to take the torsional twist though. 4t64rd : I used the back 2/3. They were about 2" wide.
Here's more of my efforts: Inside view of a front spring, still roughed out and unfinished. car is on jack stands and actually sits a couple inches lower.: Overall view of the front end setup: Spring perch, cut from 1/2" plate, chassis is upside down. The other tab is the engine mount: Axle and hairpin setup: Leafs, which were a semi cut in half, from some single spring car. I was just setting up to drill new holes, which proved to be quite easy using slowish speed and a drop of oil:
This has really helped me alot guys, thanks. I'LL pop in again with more news of what i decide to do, I like setting the springs inside the frame like timebandit's. looks clean and gets you lower.Inboard looks stronger, Tough decision... Very helpful pictures BTW.
you guys are all providing super info for those of us who want to do this but have not figured it all out yet. Keep it going and thanks.
