Were about to start our 49 Prefect build. It will be gasser style and we are throwing thoughts and ideas around for the front end.

We hate the leaf spring look and know little about transverse leaf. Does anyone know the pros and cons for a quarter elliptical spring setup for Drag Racing ?

What drop axle do you folks recommend for a 10 second drag race application. Wheel stands are in the picture but they won't be big.

    Your ideas are welcome

  2. Many 60's gassers used 1/4 eliptic springs in the rear. They worked well for transfering weight to the rear axle. Never seen them used on the front of a gasser. A cross spring on a straight tube axle would be a good choice for light weight and the 60's look.

Most of the early cars Jungle Jim built used quater eliptic springs on the front. Both his Novas 64 and the 66 and Brutus used this setup. The front shocks are your front end limiter in this setup. Normally they ran the spring on top of the axle with a single rod under the axle for stabilization. No shackle was used. The radius rods pivot point was in line with the spring pivot point. Speedway Motors sells a quater eliptic spring for $89.00 a piece. It's comparable to the posi unit for much more.

my 32 bantam altered has them on the front there about 8 inches long.and has a friction setup underneath to act as stabilization and shock. car was built in early 70's I have went over 150mph in it, this year new engine hopefully over 160 car is 108 wb. I will try to get pics of it and post if i can figure out how. also there is no shackle on the axle end this setup is stiff not much for suspension but seems to work. this car was supposed to been AA/f altered in kansas city back in the day
