Was considering switching from my 1949 216 to a 1967 292 in my 3100 Truck. Will I lose the foot starter? (WIll the foot starter still work with the 67 engine?) Any ideas? Thanks, Chuck

The original stater would not likely work on the new engine for at least a couple of reasons, flywheel tooth count/diameter, and possibly mounting flange. However, if you consider it important to keep the foot starter, I think it would be feasible to modify the linkage and newer style starter to accept the foot starter linkage and switch assembly. Biggest drawback to that is the starter, I think, is mounted a bit lower on the engine on the 292 and the linkage might be a bit more complicated to modify in that instance. Mocking it up on the garage floor would soon tell the tale.

The foot starter was used on the 216 and 235, which use a completely different bellhousing and starter design than the newer 6 engines like the 292.

You can build anything, but this one won't be easy
