I have a 79 chrysler 360 in my 55 Dodge. For a trans I have the stock 727 auto. It runs great but the problem is it is a 3 speed with the lock up converter. This was an early version of overdrive. I am looking for a better highway trans at least a 4 speed with overdrive. Does chrysler make a trans that will bolt up to the 360 or would it be wise for me to invest in an adapter and go with a chevy or ford trans. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Bob
Yes, the newer tranny's (up to the early 90's anyway) have the same bolt pattern, you want something like an A999 I think... Put this ? on the main board, you'll get better response! Jay
What you're looking for is the A-500 or A-518 out of a later model Dakota. You'll need to do some fabbing, and an electric switch to engage the 4th gear (0.63 gearing! ). I'm putting an A-518 into my '70 Challenger, and its easier than you'd think.
