Am I just being impatient? I bought a USA-2 Concurs Radio from a dealer in NY, on January 10th. for my 58 Chevy. I was told it would be 2-3 weeks to get the radio as the mfg modifies each radio for the car it is going into. It is now February 21st, and no radio. The dealer is very apologetic and calls me every couple of weeks with an update, got a call yesterday, he says I am still 2-3 weeks out and wants to reassure me I will get my radio. Anyone else experiencing the same thing? Or I am getting jobbed?
I don't know if what you ordered is what we got once. Custom Autosound made to sorta fit a '70 Nova. Sounded like crap, weighed 1/2 an ounce. basically a 1981 Kraco repopped with a digital face and a $400 price tag. Very disappointed in the whole experience. The face was digital readout behind a fake printed analog scale, very hard to read. The car's owner gave up on it since it never did interface with the trunk mounted CD changer.
I owned two of these and they both broke with in a year.One for my Chevelle and one for my '40 Ford. They were cjeap Kraco units.

Yeah, not to add to your misery but I bought one for a little Chevy II I had a couple years back. It took about 6 weeks to get here and it looked so cheap when I finally got it I just sent it back. Sorry.
Yah, I bought their USA 5 for my Chevelle. Complete with speakers and a 10 disc changer. It took 4 units before I got one that worked for more than a week. I got a USA1 for my truck at the same time. I'm on the fifth radio in it, never made it out of warranty with any of them. I don't like the fact they have no tone control? If you want to know the time, you have to press a button and the time displays for a couple of seconds. I agree, the screen is hard to read with the chinzee printed am dial shit, and a digital display behind it. I'm out of warranty on the Chevelle, and not far from it with the truck. These are my last 2 Custom Auto Sound radios. And, yes, I've gotten the out of stock line from them, I've also gotten the "we quit using a Chinese manufacturer and went back to made in the USA" line from them.
I put the complete system in my 60 Impala with the cd changer and speakers. It looks ok but it sounds like crap. I would never spend the money on another one. I learned my lesson thru my wallet for junk.
I had a USA6 with 10 disc changer for years. The Changer went out within a year and a half, and the deck sounded horrible the whole time I had it. The knobs were always loose, and I when I would call for help, I got the same line as others here, "It's out of stock" or "we don't make that one anymore". Sorry, man. But I wouldn't buy another one again.
I put a real nice unit and an equalizer in the glovebox of my '6o Chev with no problem and left the delete plate.Should I ever decide to remove it I can easily replace the glove box insert.Those Custom Autosound units are nothing but expensive junk.
I had the same experience: Their stuff is nothing but cheesy POS cheapo units. I got one that only lasted a few months before the sound had dropped completely from the right channel and was terribly degraded on the left channel. I tossed it in the trash, and CAREFULLY modified the radio opening for a new JVC CD w/USB drive for MP3 files. I'll never waste my money that way again.
mine supposedly was built on a kenwood chassis looks ok sounds like when i was a kid driving wioth my mom in our wagon listening to the am radio. got the whole package radio usa 5 dual cone dash speaker kick panel speakers sounded bad put in unit in the glove box and it sounds great

I have one in my '55 chevy. not sure what model it is... it has a tape deck... that broke after maybe using the tape player 3 or 4 times.. it would just eat those cassettes. Also i went to polish the knobs when polishing the rest of my dash stuff and the "chrome" look just wiped right off. JUNK!
Add me to the list of people who would sooner go without a radio than one of these turds. The CA head unit in my '66 fastback has always "worked", but it's always sounded like shit too.
wow glad i found this thread. i was going to purchase one of these for my chevelle so that i wouldnt have to cut up the dash insert. So does anyone know of a radio that will fit the factory opening with the dual dials that is any good or should i find a delet plate and put the radio in the glove box?

That's what I'd do. These days many head units are offered with remotes, and I've even seen some that would work through a closed pot metal glove box door.
why don't you drop in an amp and hook an ipod up to it?? that'd be the cooler way to get tunes, plus you can leave the original and keep the lights hooked up to it. With the ipod you'd get seemless music of what you want to hear!
Custom Autosound sells cheap junk! Those guy's should be ashamed of themselves for using the shittiest components available on the planet. Suprised they don't sell them at Harbor Freight. One day i'll take mine out of the dash and smash it with a hammer so it will sound better!
It is very easy to spread controls to match the holes in your dash. (If it has electronic tuning) simply disconnect and spread them out using a piece of filler metal to hold them in the new postion. For the dash you'll have a gap on each side of the dial. you'll have to put a filler panel in there. I was a dealer for Custom-Auto Sound when they first got started for T-Bird and Mustang radios. The first ones they sold -- the control filler pieces were duct taped into position (they do a much better job now of reworking them.) I just did a radio for my '68 Chevelle. Everything was black and I just went to Home Depot and got 2 samples of Formica countertop to use as my dash filler.--------------TwoChops
Jeeze. I had one in my '55 Chevy that worked fine as did the 10-disc CD changer. I now have one of their Hidden Audio systems in my '50 Chevy with 10-disc CD changer and it is working fine and has been in the car for 3-years. Granted , it's not my daily driver but it works every time I start the car.
Do a web search on Antique Auto Radio in Palm Harbor, FL. They do a mod on your factory radio case with all new guts, stereo outputs, and remote CD inputs. Excellent quality and service, and the radio looks stock. Sound quality depends on your speakers, but the units I have installed sound great and are loud enough to drown out your straight pipes! Dan
lucky you . i had one of the hidded units ... worked a year or just before the warranty was up then the changer took a shit .got it fixed then did it again about 6 months later after the warranty was up .. then the head unit literally fell apart . never again will i deal with them .the customer servise sucks too . i hate them ....
Another sorry customer here. Took months to get the hidden audio system, and it worked for a month or 2, and then died. They fixed it, and it has been fine since, but it is cheap junk. If it was $50, it might be a decent deal, but its not, and I wouldnt waste my money on them again. I just hid a pioneer cd player/head in the glove box of my 47 ford, works great, and ran me around $100.
I ordered one for a 63 Chebbie for a customer, POS it was, not the car. Never did work, the customer service was crap , the unit was crap, it was cheesy, it sucked, it blowed, it didnt work..in sucking and/or blowing mode. Do you get my drift? Jackasses talk a good story, made me look like a fool. I got a full refund for my guy...........wankers they are.
I am trying to install a kraco equlizer but the equipment does not have the tabs. Does anyone out their know how to hook it up?I'm open to suggestions.
