Searching ebay I notice several listed as a S.P. 2. P 318. What does that translate to in English and the Edelbrock catalog? Im guessing SP is Single Plane. Im looking for a 2176 or equivalent for a basic 360 in a truck to be used for towing.
PM the Hack. He'll know. The performer is a good choice, I've got one on the truck I drive. The whole package;intake, cam and carb 600cfm. Although most people will say it's negligible gain over stock (in fact some say it's just a stock manifold cast in aluminum) I found it works pretty good. Jay
The SP2P intakes are small runner (high velocity) manifolds designed to give good low-end response and fuel economy. You should easily be able to see externally just how small the runners are. Contrary to many people's beliefs, they're not a HP unit. Not my choice for towing power.
They were a 70s era intake aimed at improving economy more than anything else. Edelbrock offered them for many V8 engines. Not worth much in today's market...really only good for a lighter-than-stock replacement manifold. Fine on a stock engine, though. I had one on a 400-M Ford and it ran fine in a 2wd truck.
Stands for single plane, 2 plane. As stated, 70's excuse for performance when the engines were neutered after the insurance and gas problems of the early 70's.
