I' am building a 1922 model T turtle back roadster. The original frame is in excellent shape. My question is...should I try and use the original frame or should I just buy an aftermarket piece. I'd rather not build one from scratch if I could avoid it. Is it worth it to do the work on the original frame or should I just sell it and buy a new one? I want the car to have sort of early sixties look.

    (sigh)
    What motor are you running?
How much work do you want to put in that frame?
How much $$$$$ do you have?

    REMEMBER: this IS the HAMB...

But MY recomendation to you is to get a Model A frame.
    "T frame in excellent shape"....?
But there's a REASON those didn't get run way back when.

AND AN "A" FRAME IS JUST COOLER.

Seems to me, it's just a matter of what you like - building things from scratch, restoring old iron, or buying stuff. That original frame is some pretty old metal! They're so cheap to buy new, maybe that's best. I don't have any common sense, so I'd build from scratch, but I'm just sick that way...

  4. I'd never run that original frame unless it was on an original T. [IMG]

If you are running a four banger..box it and use it...a V-8 will need a bigger frame..you might skate by if you are running a Flattie

Why is the A frame so much better than the T? My question is, alot of people will copy the A frame with 2x3 square tubing out of scratch, but it doesn't seem to be done with the T frame too often. Is this because it would be "obsolete" if you had anything later than a T body sitting on it (i.e. a flatty in a Hemi Cuda shell)?

Is that style A frame more rigid or something? Does it handle better?

Model A frames are much stronger than the T frame. I don't have one to compare, but I think the T frame is only about 2 1/2 inches deep compared to about 4" for tha A bone.

I considered picking up one at an auction last year, going to start another project. I looked at it a while, picked it up and twisted it. Flimsier than I remember them, couldn't picture using it with V8 parts.
My vote is if you are going for a hot rod make one from scratch as opposed to hacking up and then discarding a decent antique. Hang it on the wall for trading stock someday. But that's just my opinion

Ya that's what I'll do. I figure I can sell the rolling ch***is along with the fenders and misc. parts I don't use. Would an early T body fit on a A frame? What mods nee to be made?

I know the later T's do, but I haven't seen much about putting an early one on an A frame.
