Hey guys.. I'm looking into a frame swap on my oldsmobile but had a question on track width of a frame. Does anyone know the track width of a 1965-70 chevy impala? I know the wheel base but not the other. Any and all help appreciated.

Track width is measured from tire center to center. What is your olds?

I'd pass on that one, the front end uses a strut rod that runs forward from the lower A arm to a crossmember just under the radiator or just in front of it. It also uses an eccentric cam on the lower control arm to adjust camber. Not a bad system but you can't do anything with that front crossmember if it gets in the way. Also it's a perimeter frame with the rails way out there. to the sides where they are too wide for a lot of cars. If you want to go ahead with it get the tape measure out and do a lot of measuring first to save grief later.

On the length of the wheel base. Most GM coil spring cars from 65 and up at least had the frame rails made out of about three sections to deal with all the bends and bows and kick ups. Usually there are a few inches of the rear section slipped into the side rails and then welded. Cutting the welds right there and slipping the rear portion forward a tad or back a bit to adjust the wheelbase is pretty simple. At least it was with the 75 Monte Carlo frame I put under my 51 Merc. The not so simple part was modifying the hump over the rear axle to clear the Monte frame.
