I've got access to a 1967 383 "b-series" big-block, but I was curious would this even fit in my 1949 ford? I'd love to use the engine, but I'm not wanting to do any major surgery to get this thing to fit. It's either that or sell the 1967 dodge monaco that the engine is in, and get something smaller. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated, and I appologize if this is a stupid question.
I wont put a mopar in my mopar, they are really wide.. talk to Dvancek.. he was going that route on his chevy (its really wide and can cause steering linkage issues) but he may have changed his mind now
thanks for the heads up, and advice. I was just curious, and as money is kinda tight, I figured if it would work I could spend my money somewhere else.
I encourage putting a mopar in everything, but... You will have to change alot of stuff to get it to work. Everything from the radiator through to the rearend. But I guess if you have a donor car, then you have all the parts. It might be easier though to stick with a Ford drivetrain.
Slant 6's aren't that wide. Big blocks are a bit wide, old hemis are really wide at the head but the blcoks aren't much worse that anything else comparable. Small blocks aren't too bad. I know that doesn't help when you've got a big block (that's paid for) you wanna stuff into your shoebox. Have you taken a tape measure to the itmes in question to see if it may work? Maybe make a crude mock-up out of cardboard, and see what you think before you get rid of a good running engine.
