I finally got my 62 comet running and now im having problems with the points. It fried the first 2 sets and then it bent the third set. Any suggestions on what i should check. I changed the condenser when i put in the first set of points that got fried. The thing im most confused about is i dont understand what would cause the third set to get bent. Any help?

  2. Can't help you with the bent points but the fried points are becaure you're running 12 volts to 'em, they should only get about 9. Check and make sure that you have the proper ballast resistor in line between the hot switch and the coil.

Check the cam in the dist. And lube the cam. Make sure the points gap is right

like the man said, besure there set up wiring wise with the resistor.
As a side note on these old points cars you can not leve the ign. on with the motor not running!,if you do for like playing the radio or?? what ever, checking something maybe, the points if closed when the ign. is on will get hot=burn=bend even=you screwed up again:eek:

Like the others said, check the cam , clean an lube, use the best points you can purchase ( more than likely napa heavy dudy) make sure the distributor lead wire from points to coil is proper resistance and size (another napa item) use the condensor that comes from the same company, check igniton coil for proper resistance, ( goole usually has correct specs under your car or distributor number and use a ballast or look resistor before ignition coil....
Gotta be one of the above...:)
