I'd like to know if I primed my engine tonight, would it remain sufficiently primed for startup tomorrow afternoon? The reason I ask is that I have to unbolt the trans mounts to tilt the engine forward to prime the pump and drop the distributor, followed by installing the clutch linkage etc. I can get this done tonight and possibly get a chance to fire it up tomorrow afternoon. I will not have a chance to ****on it all up and fire tomorrow however. Thanks

Better than nothing, but not ideal. It will have the oil filter full and saturated, the oil pump primed, all of the oil p***ages oiled and oil in the lifters. If the engine was ***embled with ***embly lube it should be protected as the oil pressure should come up almost instantly.

Garage is cleaned up! Oil filter filled. Engine ***embled with proper lubes etc. just wondering if all oil p***ages were primed if there would be sufficient oil remaining at startup.

Sure, you will be fine and much better than no prelubing at all, like most people do. Just be sure to run it at 2000 to 2500 rpms for half hour, then change all the oil and filter after that.

I used to crank over with the coil wire off untill I built my convert. I used a pre lube can, and coud not believe how quite the engine was when first fired up, no lifter noise at all. I would never build another engine and not use a pre lube pressure oiler

gm runs them, drains them, ships them , and install and refill them again and then start them up and sometimes the motors sit for several weeks with no problems ( and they been doing this for many years ) , as long as the gallerys are filled, the pump is primed up and the filter is on it ( hopefully a good one with a anti drainback and not orange in color either) you should be good to go , a quick 5 second crank should be all it needs to get things going again .
