a friend of mine has a Rover motor for sale, he said he believes it to be a 3.9l engine, but can't verify it. The motor is one of them that looks just like the nailhead buick, and has new blockhugger headers. He also has a rebuilt borg warner tranny for it, and wants right at $400 on it. I don't really need it but it looks like such a neat little motor, I have read that there are parts readily available for it and such. Anyhow, I kinda wanted to ask if it might be worth another look?
might be a good question for a Land rover board to see what issues they've had. The only one I know of is 4x4wire.com but there are probably others. pirate4x4.com might have some rover stuff.
Its the bigger brother of the 3.5l Rover V8....As you rightly say, its the Buick 215 Nailhead with Rover valve covers!! Its long been the staple of British Hot Rodders, its light, and can be made to go really well with a small amount of tuning. Its the small block c*evy of the UK hot rod scene. http://www.realsteel.co.uk/ would be the guys to email & ask, they are the top UK tuning guys for the engine. Dave
Check out D&D Fabrications. http://www.aluminumv8.com. Edelbrock makes an excellent Performer intake and Crowler offers an extensive list of cam grinds. $400 with transmission is a good deal. I'm building an Olds 215. There is a lot of interest in this family of motors these days. A lot of stuff on EBay. Search Buick 215.
The bored out bigger version is fitted to TVR tuscans .These motors can go real well and are used regularly at the drags here. The police still use them and tuning parts are available .They are a robust small light powerful motor...........well the rover ones are.....marq
