Question about transmission cooloing lines...

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by JK, Oct 22, 2003.

  1. Can aluminium lines with a single flare be used between the ****** and a cooler without worry? Is the al. strong enough? If it's not best to use, will steel with just a single flare work. I just want to double check before I start bending.

I'm ****ing with this on my daily driver now.Single flare 3/8" dia. steel lines are what was originally installed on my '95 GM.The original tubing has corroded and is leaking.I tried to subs***ute a double flared steel line today, into the OEM external cooler. The fitting on a 3/8" steel brake line is a perfect match for the original. But it didn't seal 100% the first try.I think the double flare isn't seating properly in a fitting designed for a single flare. If it still leaks tomorrow,I'll cut that end off and put a single flare on it.

Yes on both counts. You can use either aluminum or steel and the single flar with a worm type clamp should be fine.
