  2. Bringing up an old thread as I've been searching many threads.
I have a real end that's been set up already with the right angle. It just needs spring pads welded in.
Any thoughts on welding them up on the car? This thread guys say to tack and then remove axle to weld. What about slowly doing small beads to not get too much heat and warp? Everything's already ***embled on the car. It's a 9" rear.

Its gonna warp, doing small welds and waiting to cool or not. I have a jig that I use, others have had success welding the pad on and then applying heat to the opposite side if they need to bring it back around. You can test by how easy the axle slides in and out, if you have to force it into the bearing end then its warped and you'd heat the backside of where you welded.

  4. The jig is with the axle stripped I ***ume?

Yes sir ,take it apart and do it once.

  6. I've seen others just weld them on an ***embled axle. But that was 3/4 ton truck stuff. I guess not exactly the same.

I would think you could weld them in the car if it was all clamped in place tight. The springs should help pull heat away from the axle tubes fairly quickly and minimize any warping, if you weld 1" at a time jumping from side to side and letting it cool as you go.

  8. That was my thought. There's a lot of other work to do, so I could let it sit a couple hours between 1" welds.
I have a really good MIG and TIG welder. Wonder if one would be enter than the other as far as heat?
