Question for loudpedal - A coupe body mods

    Really like your coupe; couldn't quite figure out what was different until I read the R&C info. Searched here on the HAMB & other places but no info. Can you shed some light on the de-section, and how you used tudor doors ? How did you lengthen the roof ? Is the frame stretched ? Thanks in advance, or if someone could direct me to any old posts I'd appreciate it.

    Yea, I was wondering the same thing. Loudpedal's coupe has body lines that are quite pleasing. I saw it at Bonneville in both '03 and '04 and just couldn't quite figure out why it looked better than the other 30/31 coupes that I'd seen. I figured it had to be more than the 8 inch chop.

    I've been comparing photos of a stock 31 and Loudpedals and it appears as though he may have added somewhere between 1 and 2" to the height of the body itself. If you use a 32 shell on a 30/31, you have to drop the shell around 2" for it to look proper. I think Loudpedal raised the body instead. I don't know if that's what he did, but it makes sense (to me anyway).

    This is from my point of veiw only and Im sure there is a lot more to it,but it looks like maybe it could be done this way. Buy all new patch panels for a model a and just weld them where the body line is just two inchs farther down on the body and if you have a body with no sub rails your making them anyway so just move those down also.It looks like there would be a lot of body work at the rear wheel opening though. again thats the way it looks but I Imagine its a lot harder than that.

    Does the bottom of the cowl come out and run along the top of the frame??

    How does the alt/Gen,water pump work if there not on the engine?

    That has to be the coolest Model As there is!!!!!

    that's a REALLY bitchen car, but I'm not sure if it coulda been pulled off without that hemi and it's intake setup. A smaller motor would throw it all off I think.

    You're wrong...because it looked just as cool with a SBC under a full hood.

    The car is just damn smart. I don't think I would have came up with the sectioning mod, but I had thought about using Sedan doors on a coupe to add room and make the chop look more severe...this post was the first I'd heard of anyone actually doing it though.

    any pics of it with the other motor? I was thinking there would be too much space between the motor and the top of the firewall if a small block was used....
    I hope my 5 window can be at least half as cool as his car. The sedan doors would be a good idea for my tall ass....

  12. I wont answer this for Kris, because you will get a much better response from him. However he is very busy finishing Corys truck(which is driving now) plus he was down in Vegas all weekend with his Dragster team, I am sure he would be more than happy to answer when he is back.   14. One of my all time favorite rods. De-sectioning does make a lot of sense. It seems to solve a lot of problems too....like not having to bob the rear framehorns and maybe even using the stock '32 gas tank. I also wonder if a Tudor is useed from the doors forward...including the subrails. Clever car...lots of great design and thinking went into this thing.

    So how much did you add to it?
    Did you not add to the rear fenderwells?
    Has any magizine featured your car besides this months R&C coverage? I think it should be gracing the pages of Rodders Journal.

    I typed most of this last night, but I think it got lost in the HAMB change-over thingy. What I did was put the body on blocks until the top of the cowl was the same height as the top of the grille shell. This left a space under the body between the frame. So I cut the bottom of the doors, cowl and front part of the rear quarters and lowered them down. I don't remember how much it was that I added. I just added enough to bring the lower edge to the top of the frame. I know that the doors were lowered the most and the rear quarter pieces have a pie shapped piece of metal added to lower them. (see the pics I posted earlier) The fender wells are '32 3-window fender wells, but you could use the stock ones. You wouldn't have to add to them. I used the '32 wells because I liked them better at the time; I wish I would have left the stock ones in now. To put the sedan doors on, I cut the roof just behind the windshield and the sub rails just behind the cowl. Then I added enough metal to put it back together. So the door jambs are about 2 1/2 inches longer than a stock coupe. It's fairly straight forward.

    Here's the poop on the alternator:

    I'm running a 331 Hemi, which is the long bellhousing block. We made a pulley that goes between the crankshaft and the flexplate. Then we machined a slot in the top of the bellhousing just large enough to pass a belt through. Then I made an alternator bracket that mounts on the top of the bellhousing, on the inspection cover pad. So the alternator is hidden behind the distributor. The firewall has a removable cover to gain access to the alternator. To change the belt you just remove the 3 torque converter bolts, push the converter back and fish the new belt in. No big deal, I've changed belts and alternators on new cars that were twice as hard as that.

    Here's the low down on the cooling system:

    I run an electric water pump that is mounted under the car. No tricks there, just hoses and a couple of wires. I run the coolant out of the back of the heads into a y pipe and then into the radiator.

    All of this keeps the front of the Hemi looking like a race-only engine, which is the look I wanted.


    Lets see... the coupe has been in Newsledder, Rolls and Pleats, Ol Skool Rods, The Goodguys mag, Crusin', Car Kulture DeLuxe, Burn Out, Street Rodder and is in this month's Hot Rod. Thanks yngrodder, Rodder's Journal would be cool, but I think it needs a little more work to be RJ material.

    Seems like the Anti-section (tm) would be easily accomplished on a "typical" A body that needs quarter and cowl patches and door bottoms already. I think that is the key - most A's that are chopped that much have a "squashed" look to them. The anti-section, and the stretched doors also, bring it back into proportion.

    I remember doing the little blurp on you, your wife and your car for the Goodguys Gazette... I tried to sit in the thing, but I was a little long in the trunk to fit. (makes me wish I was born shorter!)

    Neat car... neat folks... and Yea, I liked it with the SBC too...
