Are all closed car cowls the same for 30-31 Model As? (I know the late 31/slants are different). In other words will a sedan cowl work with a coupe?

And why do you say that? I have a Briggs firewall on my coupe.

Briggs and Murray made bodies for due to the high demand of the four door cars. The doors on briggs have a straight top - Murray have a curved top. Not sure about the cowels. The bolt pattern to the frame will be the same but not sure if the cowel is interchangeable.

  7. I believe the belt line molding (stamping) is in a different location on the Briggs & Murrys and wpold take a different hood top for everything to line up.

Let me clarify my above statement, I have a Briggs bodied coupe.

All the 1930 and 1931 Model A's have the same hood. The 1928 and 1929 Briggs Fordoors have a different hood than the rest of the 28's and 29's.

Pretty sure '28-'29 Briggs cowels looked like normal '30-'31 cowel. You know, not having the steped in cowel sides.

  10. I stand corrected. This is the hood I was thinking of, but it was only used in '28-'29.

I may be a wet on that statement. I do know the 29 Murry and Briggs have a different cowl and firewall. On the 29 the tank is covered by the cowl. Tanks is however the same as Ford body 29.

  12. I have a Budd body '31 pickup cab and the only difference I see is some of the doors I have the rear post appears thicker, I just noticed myself in a photo and I've had these things several years. Other than that, the doors will fit up, hinges in the same place, doors the same length, so I have to think the cowls are the same - except for the slant with the gas tank not forming the cowl top.

I know the obvious stuff. What I need is a 30-31 coupe cowl to get going on my coupe body. I suspected that a sedan or pick-up cowl would be the same. Hate to buy a cowl and find out afterwards that one i bit taller or wider or something.

Yes the 30 - 31 cowl will work. As long as it is a Ford closed body. Not a slant windshield.
