I was asked this by a kid , and often wondered it myself , the Tri bar headlights was there a purpose for the bars ( holding up the filiment ?? or was used to focus the glass lens?? ) or was it cosmetic , as I noticed it was popular with lucas headlights overseas, before here but its quite popular on the 50's 60's cars too , so whats the deal with them
I have them on my rod wondered the same thing. The only reason I bought them is because they have LED turn signals and look cool. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
The tribar headlights available today (halogen), look hardly anything like the clear lense lights popular in the 50's. Most guys are fooling themselves if they think those lights are nostalgic. They should pick up some vintage magazines to see what they really looked like.
I have regular hellas on my car no tribars , but what was the reason for them ?? were they cut lenses like a fresnel and the bars held them up ?? my 60's MG had t-3's when I got it and I do know that was a special made lense .
I always thought that the tri-bar held a small reflector in front of the bulb. Europe had different headlight laws and the euro lights were perceived as better, brighter, more focused etc. Best round headlights I've ever seen were made in Poland and sold be J.C. Whitney 30 years ago.
