Yup but I'll be here forever finding something with a stick down and really close to where I live.
I give up on finding everything I need if I can spend only $2500

Motor ran fine and idles nice. It's a 350 motor. Trans shifted alright but truck slightly slows down and then pushes a little hard during the second to third shift but it doesn't make noise and isn't super bad. Looks worth it for $2500. Gonna go back first thing in the morning and see it with cash and drive back home.

Had power steering and power brakes. Steers so easily and stops real damn nice. I almost feel like it's too easy
Compared to my 53'. Just not psyched on the color and ride height. I want it lowered just a little and meaner tires.

    Odometers not working.
Will I have trouble selling it later if that's not working?

  7. No, is the speedo working?. Late model master (90's), 70's alt brackets, long water pump and some funky headlight trim rings. HA, I had the same wheels when I got mine. Full size hubcaps, paint the grille off white, change the headlight bezels, off white the top and let the green fade. Couldn't find a better picture.

Awesome truck and love the hubcaps.

The speedo worked but I didn't drive it on the highway. The guy said at highway speed it doesn't work right.

Seems like I can rattle can some
Things and get hubcaps and maybe lower it just a bit by cutting the coils or heating them. I don't want to go too low by any means but I don't want it as high.

I think it's a go I can't think of any reason not to and can paint it with rattle cans for now

Got the truck. Drove on the highway for longer duration and the temp gage was at the H. It went back down but maybe the gage isn't calibrated correctly since it's an unknown 350 engine With a stock c10 Dash. I didn't see it boiling over. I saw some new oil on the top of the intake, didn't look like coolant to me.

In any case I'm going to drive the truck short distances to the bay and sunset cliffs to surf. The girl likes it and is psyched we can use it as is. I'm not going to do anything to the truck for now except maybe lower it just a little by cutting or heating coils and taking the mud flaps off which I hate.

For $2500 I'll enjoy it for a while and it if its a good experience I'll unload it for less and get a nicer truck. Thanks to all for the advice.

Carb setup looks hokey.. not sure what kind of intake it has.

Congrats on getting what you wanted. The running hot on the gauge then suddenly cooling off sounds like the thermostat might be slow about opening. I'd get a good manual or electric aftermarket gauge and stick it under the dash so you can know what's really going on.

[IMG]Your fuel line's damn near kinked shut. Might wanna address that. Put another clamp on the carb end of that fuel filter while you're at it.
Smell it, could be gas from that fuel filter/line mess.
Neat truck, good luck with it.

Thanks I'll look for an aftermarket gauge. It was on C for a while then went midway after the thermostat opened up and went as high as the H during the highway driving then backed down some on regular roads. I'll look for aftermarket temp Gage's.

Anyone have a guess what carb and intake is on there? I'd like to not mess with anything but am wondering if that a 350 sbc with some old early era carb and intake manifold.

Congratulations on the new truck. If it runs hot then start with a new thermostat. If it still continues hot then a complete engine flush and fresh coolant. Gauges usually are working okay.

  20. It's a stock 2bbl Rochester for a 70s 350. I would get an aftermarket gauge for the temp or at least get a infrared temp gun to check temps of the radiator or engine. The gauge will read the same on any motor with the correct sender. It sounds like the radiator is plugging up if it's heating up at freeway speeds but not on the street. After its warm, with the engine off touch the radiator face working side to side up to the top. Look for colder spots in the core.

  21. Also I would change hoses, get a regular upper radiator hose, change the thermostat (160 with a 1/8" hole) and check everything. Most likely a mid 70s motor with that alternator bracket, valve covers, intake and hei.

BTW don't heat up the coils, cut them if you want to lower it, but CPP or the truck shop in orange has lowered coils.

loldtimer offers a good tip with the infrared heat sensing gun and new hoses. The infrared guns are accurate and you can scan around easy to see where it is hot or cold. They are not that expensive when they come up for sale. The bottom of the rad is a good dirt trap might need to be cleaned out as well. We use the infrared gun for the deep fryer on the cook outs and will never use a thermometer again. We used them at work for trouble shooting many systems all over the plant.

  24. Buy a fire extinguisher. that plastic fuel filter located between the fuel pump and carb is a inferno waiting to happen.

Fix the fuel line including replacing that plastic bomb with a steel filter. Ignore the manifold and carb... It runs, leave it. Drive it to the beach. Win.

Oil on the intake pull the center 2 bolts on each side and put sealer on the threads and reinstall.

Thanks yes! I'll replace the fuel filter with a steel one and fix the kink in the hose, check the intake bolts, and check the cooling system and maybe flush and then cut the coils and drive it to the beach a bunch of times.

Fixed the fuel line and put a steel fuel filter. Took the hideous mud flaps off and then went for a spin with the girl and her dog.

She absolutely loves the truck as is. Loves the ride height and doesn't think I need to change the colors or lower it and should leave the exhaust alone. Her comment was that it feels like a normal tough truck that isn't modified with some crazy loud exhaust or lowered or raised or souped up to get attention.

The only thing that feels a little weird is the shifting from the trans. Motor revs a little higher during shifting and it shifts a little hard or at least the truck pushes abruptly a bit. Wondering if changing trans fluid and filter will be a good start. Overall I'm glad I got it and we are going to fiesta island tomorrow to drive it on the beach late Afternoon with a mini BBQer!

  30. Check the vacuum line to the trans to see if it's hooked up. Most likely a shift kit if all gears wind out the same, if it stall for a little bit and feels like it shifts late then it might be a modulator. Look at the color of the fluid, is it pink/red still and does it smell burned. If it's slightly dark change it....use a white paper towel to check it.
