What spindle will work with my 61 buick hubs? I want to use a straight drop axle suicide style, I do not have the axle yet. Thanx for any info
I would venture that '54-'56 Buick spindles will work with the '61 hubs. Those are the last years of kingpins. (You're trying use Buick brakes, right?) I had the Buick spindles, hubs, backing plates and finned drums on a Super Bell axle awhile back. Currently have all the pieces to do it again on another project. You really need to check the kingpin inclination angle-I believe it changed over the three years I mentioned. You want it as close to Ford (or whatever is built into the axle) as you can get. If it's off, a little creativity on a Bridgeport will fix the spindles.
The hub, but want to use a superbell axle or equvilant. I want to use these 1933 ford spoke wheels that I have they are 5x51/2 x16 I can machine in the lug pattern on hubs and drums no problem But I dont have alot of $ right now and just piecing things together. I saw the one you are building and looks really good, That is what I am going for.
A few years ago, 29RAT machined up some adapters to run Buick hubs on early Ford spindles---maybe he's still got some.
29RAT's bearing adaptors will work if you run 40'ish ford spindles and 40'ish ford backing plates. You do have to do some machine work on the buick drum to make this work.
