Hey fellas - Hoping someone can offer some insight. I have a 57 Oldsmobile rear end in my 29 Ford Coupe. I'm guessing the ratio is a 2.70 - something. A buddy of mine is going to redrill the axles for me so it will fit a standard Chevy bolt pattern. The current bolt pattern is 5". Unfortunately he is going out of town and won't be able to get to it for a little while. Of course I'm getting impatient and want to drive it, so was wondering if I'd be better off just picking up a couple new/used axles. Would chevy axles work? What should I look for? When I got the car, it had aluminum wheel spacers/adaptors to mate with my Weld wheels. To make a long story short it DIDN'T WORK! Lugs kept coming lose, etc, etc Sorry, I'm not real savy with this stuff, but eager to learn. Thanks for your imput.
From what I have read, Nothing will fit from another car. You can read about those rears here: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=129676&highlight=olds+pontiac+tech
Well...that's a great read. I should have searched a little harder!! But I'm at work!!! HA Thanks F&J!
Call Moser Axle, They will make them and ship them in less than a week. http://www.moserengineering.com/axles.html
If your really in a hurry, Chevy 5 lug pick up wheels ('73 and up) use the the 5'' bolt circle. Get you rolling till you get the setup that you want.
