    greetings HAMB'rs

    390ci in a 50 ford

simply put, there will be problems with the tie rod and drag link setup hitting the pan... what are some alterations needed to make this transplant work?

    thanks! [IMG]

I've got a buddy with a 460 in his 50. He modified the firewall to make it go in right. TP

thanks TP.. figured some firewall mods might be needed...

did your friend relocate the motor mounts/set the motor back to clear the drag link setup?

    I'm doing a 460 now with a big c-6, in a 50, without firewall mods....
but I do lots of drugs, so I have time to tweak it all out.. I think sleep is what makes MEN think they have to cut firewalls..........
    pretty genius this swap is,,,

    But I'm not ROCKABILLY,
    so reading a RULER isn't a problem...

I need to drop some NAMES about now..

Ive seen 390s in shoeboxes with no firewall mods. I think you may need a truck pan and pickup as they are rear sump. I have a sbf in My 51 and its a rearsump.ANYBODY?? --Feder

we are going to look at other options before hacking the firewall. i recall a hot rod mag maybe 7 yrs ago did an article on a guy that built a 65 fairlane/429 side oiler(?)... did some mods to the suspension, and got rid of or altered the wheel wells.

I have rear sump pan on the 390 in my F-1. Bought it over the counter at Ford Dealer, they stock them for some motor homes. Might have to use electric fan, as FE motors are kinda long..........OLDBEET

I think if you don't modify the firewall you'll have to relocate the core support. Never really looked at his that hard just know that he did it. As for the motor mounts he fabbed them. I can look it over if you want and maybe get some pictures. He is running a steel fan also not an electric.TP
