I have the urge to rebuild my 365 caddy engine (1956) and wondered if there are any books/literature that anyone can suggest to help me get started as have not got anything to tell me the obvious things like torque settings, tolerances etc etc! Any help would be gratefully appreciated from a rather bemused limey
You can buy the 1956 Caddy shop manual on a CD. Do a Google search on Cadillac 1956 cd or checkout Ebay. I have one and its great to print the pages you need then throw them away, when you are ready . And have a lot of oily fingerprints on them
The latest issue of Hot Rod Deluxe has a rebuild of a Cadillac 390 in it, it's certainly not in depth, just a magazine article, but it does include an important tip about the cam bearings. Apparently, the oil holes all point down except for the deepest one - miss this and starve your lifters for oil. I'm about to build a Cad 390 for my A, I plan to turn it over with no ignition until I see oil coming out of everywhere it should be. Maybe I'm just paranoid that way. Pick up the magazine, it's actually decent minus the ratrod pickup. Supposedly, you can use small-block lifters in it as well, do a search on here for the info, it's been discussed...
