First, find out the length you need. Then go to ebay and look up Mustang speedo cables. Usually they note the length in the ad. You will need a cable that has the end that the merc speedo has (which was used for many years) and the trans end needs to have the clip on gear. Be sure to get the clip . You will need the gear that does into the trans. They come in a number of different tooth counts so you will have to make a guess on which one you need. If you find that the speedo is off (high or low) you can get a gear that has more or less teeth depending on which way the speedo is off. Sometimes the clip will come with the gear, otherwise you will have to get it separately

Some of the later mustangs used a different end at the speedo so be careful when you buy.

Also, look at other Ford products for a cable. The ends are pretty much universal through out the Ford line so yiu may be able to see different length.

If you cannot find the right length, then custom ones are available.

Check the C6 cable's length and end that goes into your speedo. I have a '93 Mustang AOD along with it's accompanying speedo cable. It's 3" or 4" longer than my '54 Ford cable so I just looped and secured it under the car. The speedo end of the cable is exactly the same as the mechanism inside my '54 speedo. The cable slipped right into and onto the '54 speedo. The only mod I made was to add a 3/8" F.I. clamp to the cable end for some extra insurance. The speedo works great!
